Job Details
The Department Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations, performance, and productivity of a field-based service team. This role includes close coordination with regional leadership to ensure consistent work quality, efficient resource management, and exceptional client service. The manager also leads budgeting efforts, operational planning, and team development. This role requires up to 25% travel.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee daily department operations, ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant work practices
- Operate and maintain vehicles and equipment in accordance with company and legal standards
- Enforce safety protocols and operational policies across all team members
- Track team performance and implement process improvements as needed
- Manage department budget, monitor spending, and pursue cost efficiencies
- Cultivate and maintain strong client relationships, addressing concerns promptly
- Partner with internal teams for job scoping, estimates, bids, and project planning
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance team productivity
- Lead recruitment, training, performance evaluations, and disciplinary actions
- Assign tasks and schedule work to meet service and client expectations
- Foster a positive, safety-oriented, and goal-driven team environment
- Provide hands-on training and cross-training to build team capability
- Perform other duties as assigned
Education and Experience Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Valid driver's license
- 1–2 years of experience in environmental services, remediation, industrial cleaning, or a closely related field
- Strong leadership and problem-solving skills, especially under pressure
- Familiarity with industrial tools and cleaning equipment preferred (training provided)
- Background in sectors such as tank cleaning, oil & gas, asphalt, diesel, or pulp and paper is highly beneficial
- Proven ability to manage budgets and identify operational improvements
- Comfortable in client-facing roles with a focus on building long-term relationships
