Job Description
The Certified Scrub Tech supports surgical procedures across general surgery, orthopedics, and multiple specialties. Reporting to the nurse manager, this role contributes to surgical preparation, sterile-field support, instrument passing, room turnover, and equipment readiness, with participation tailored to each procedure and shared responsibilities with the circulating nurse.
Responsibilities
- Prepare operating rooms and specialty-specific equipment for surgical procedures.
- Establish and maintain the sterile field using aseptic technique.
- Handle, organize, and pass surgical instruments during procedures.
- Assist with patient positioning and operative preparation.
- Manage specimens and complete accurate surgical counts.
- Support surgical teams during general surgery, orthopedic, and other procedures.
- Perform standard room turnover procedures and help ensure equipment readiness.
- Manage supplies, support sterilization activities, and comply with safety requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
- At least 1 year of experience practicing as a surgical technologist.
- Completion of an accredited surgical technology program.
- Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Knowledge of sterile technique, surgical instrumentation, operating room procedures, and aseptic technique.
- Knowledge of medical terminology and patient safety practices.
- Strong attention to detail, team collaboration, and communication skills.
