Job Title: DB2 LUW \/ Cloud Database Administrator
Location (On-site, Remote, or Hybrid?): Marysville, OH (onsite)
Daily Tasks Performed:
• Database Design and Implementation: Design, develop, and implement database solutions in collaboration with development teams. Create database schemas, tables, and indexes to support efficient data storage and retrieval.
• Database Administration: Manage, monitor, and optimize database instances to ensure high availability, performance, and data integrity. Configure and maintain database backups, replication, and disaster recovery strategies.
• Performance Tuning and Optimization: Identify and resolve database performance issues, including query optimization, index tuning, and resource utilization. Monitor database performance metrics and implement improvements to optimize performance.
• Data Security and Compliance: Implement and maintain appropriate security measures and access controls to protect sensitive data stored in the cloud database. Ensure compliance with data protection regulations and industry best practices.
• Database Monitoring and Troubleshooting: Monitor database activity and performance using database monitoring tools. Diagnose and resolve database-related issues and incidents, working closely with cross-functional teams to ensure timely resolution.
• Database Capacity Planning: Estimate future database storage and performance requirements based on data growth projections. Plan and implement database capacity upgrades or scaling activities to accommodate evolving business needs.
• Database Automation and Scripting: Develop and maintain database automation scripts, workflows, and configurations using scripting languages and infrastructure-as-code tools. Implement DevOps practices for database deployment and management.
• Collaboration and Communication: Collaborate with application teams, infrastructure teams, and stakeholders to understand database requirements, provide technical guidance, and ensure effective integration with other systems. Communicate database-related updates, issues, and recommendations to relevant stakeholders.
What will this person be working on:
• Database Administration: Install, Configure, and Upgrade database software for DB2 LUW and Cloud Database Platforms. Monitor and maintain database health, performance, and security. Implement and manage database backup and recovery strategies. Ensure high availability and disaster recovery readiness.
• Performance Tuning: Analyze and optimize SQL queries and database performance. Identify and resolve bottlenecks in database systems. Implement indexing and tuning strategies and partitioning for performance gains.
• Security & Compliance: Manage user access and roles. Ensure compliance with data governance and security policies. Perform audits and vulnerability assessments.
• Automation & Scripting: Develop scripts for monitoring, maintenance, and automation tasks. Use tools like shell scripting, Python, or Perl for automation.
• Collaboration: Work closely with application developers, system administrators, and business analysts to understand new requirements and recommend high level direction and approach. Provide support for development, testing, and production environments.
• Support: Resolve platform related issues. Participate in Incident Response. Coordinate with Vendors for Product related issues, Patches and Bug Fixes.
• Future Technologies: Assist in migrating On-Prem Databases to the cloud and integrating data from various sources into Cloud-based systems.
Position Success Criteria (Desired) - 'WANTS':
• 10+ years’ experience as a DB2 LUW DBA in enterprise environments.
• Strong knowledge of DB2 LUW architecture, utilities, and tools. Experience with HADR, TSA, QREP and other high availability solutions.
• 5+ years’ experience with Cloud Concepts, AWS and other Cloud Technologies, IaaS and PaaS, Cloud Database Platforms (RDS PostgreSQL, AWS DynamoDB, DocumentDB, MongoDB, Neo4j, Neptune etc.)
• 5+ years’ experience working with large database / large scale projects.
• Proficiency with performance tuning and query optimization.
• Familiarity with Linux/Unix operating systems and shell scripting.
• Experience with monitoring tools
• Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
