Part-time positions available between 8am–6pm, Monday–Friday

Northwest Habilitation Services is expanding in the Salem, Oregon area. We are committed to supporting adults with persistent mental illness as they build the skills needed for independent, stable living. Our approach is person-centered, structured, and grounded in long-term relationship building.

This is not a caregiving or medical role. As a Direct Support Specialist (DSS), you provide motivation, coaching, and practical skill-building to help clients navigate daily life with confidence.

Your work directly supports clients in strengthening the skills they need to live successfully in their community. DSS staff will work with client in an in-home setting.

What You’ll Teach & Support

Our skills-building program focuses on:

  • Hygiene reminders
  • Housekeeping routines
  • Laundry skills
  • Meal preparation & menu planning
  • Grocery shopping
  • Money management
  • Calendaring & planning
  • Health & safety awareness
  • Social inclusion & communication
  • Navigating public transit

We use a Person-Centered approach guided by each client’s Community Client Support Plan (CCSP). DSS staff also help clients access community resources such as food boxes, healthcare appointments, and other supports.

You will maintain confidentiality, complete accurate documentation, and follow program standards.

Compensation

  • $19–$19.50 per hour starting, with a wage cap of $21 per hour
  • Opportunities for bonuses and performance-based raises

What We’re Looking For

We are seeking reliable, grounded individuals with experience in mental health settings who understand the importance of consistency and professional boundaries.

Requirements:

  • 18 years or older
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Experience in a mental health or human services setting
  • Clear background check
  • Minimum 15-hour weekly commitment
  • Ability to walk, stand, bend, stoop, and carry up to 20 lbs during 2–4 hour shifts

Preferred:

  • Valid driver’s license
  • Reliable personal vehicle

This position does not offer remote work.
