Position Title: Project Engineer I


Compensation: Full-Time, Exempt

Scope & Responsibilities of Project Engineer I: (Not limited to)

  • In depth understanding of ARG Safety Standards, Operational Tenets and strict adherence to ARG’s Operational Excellence Management System (OEMS)
  • Comply with ARG Front End Loading (FEL) methodology for capital project management.
  • Understand and follow ARG mechanical integrity and engineering standards.
  • Conducts daily rounds across all ARG facilities to monitor CAPEX project progress and safety performance.
  • Meet daily with vendors, contractors and ARG personnel to discuss JSA and review tasks for risk mitigation, ensure work permitting is completed and signs work permits as needed.
  • Collaborate with ARG Ops, Safety, Environmental, Maintenance and Reliability departments to develop project scope, schedule and budget for assigned projects.
  • Develop 3D models and piping isometrics.
  • Familiarity with ASME B31.3 Process Piping Design, ASME BPVC and willingness to attend training.
  • Conducts 3D scans as necessary to complete projects. Willingness to attend training on ARG equipment.
  • Leads vendor review and selection meetings for assigned capital projects.
  • Collaborate with TAR manager to schedule capital project execution plans.
  • Accepts contract work on behalf of ARG; responsible for evaluating vendor performance.
  • Communicate project completion metrics, change management with the Refinery Leadership Team (RLT).
  • Utilize servant leadership style to remove impediments and drive project completion.
  • Serves as change coordinator for projects involving management of change (MOC) requirements.
  • Document lessons learned and track expenditures for capital projects.
  • Complete RFQ process, procurement, receiving and other administrative purchasing responsibilities as required
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned by the Director of Project Engineering.

Education & Experience for Project Engineer I:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering and 3+ years’ experience of project experience
  • A “Project Management Professional” certification will be considered with 5+ years of experience
  • or M.S. in Engineering.
  • Technical degree with estimating and, or scheduling certifications coupled with direct refinery / chemical plant project experience.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in project management, especially work breakdown structures.
  • Highly effective people skills with demonstrated ability to work on teams.
  • Strong communication skills with flexibility to interact with all levels in the organization.

Other Qualifications of Project Engineer I:

  • Estimating, scheduling, procurement (RFQ creation and bid - technical evaluations), basic understanding of construction processes (civil, structural, and electrical), project risk analysis (lead and manage), working knowledge of project economic analysis evaluations, project scope development, project change-order management.
  • Scope design review, Project engineering, Resource planning, Contractor management, Project scheduling-software, Basic engineering analysis, Engineering Management, Quality Assurance, Project deliverable(s) analysis, and application of engineering standards.
  • PMP Certification or willingness to obtain certification within 36 months of hire.
  • Successful completion of all company mandated &/or job-related training programs deemed appropriate.

Physical & Cognitive Demands of Project Engineer I:

COGNITIVE DEMANDS: Meet deadlines, focus attention, work independently, independent judgments, work with a team, communicating, reading comprehension, critical thinking/troubleshooting.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: seeing, speaking, hearing, sitting, walk/climb, stand/reach, listen, writing, driving, keyboarding, Working in extreme heat/cold; wearing all prescribed PPE including respirator. Push/pull/lift/carry 25 pounds, comply with ARG facial hair standards
