The Position:Makpar has an exciting opportunity for a Server Administrator to join our growing team. The Server Administrator will provide support for an Agency (Police “Department”) of approximately 3,200 users. The Server Administrator installs, configures, maintains, and secures the client organization's computer servers to ensure efficient and reliable operation of IT infrastructure, handling tasks like hardware/software updates, performance monitoring, troubleshooting, user account management, and backup/disaster recovery planning. This role requires strong technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to work under pressure and adapt to changing IT needs. Role Specific Duties/ Role Responsibilities:

  • Expert knowledge and experience with administrating Linux and Windows servers
  • Designs, documents, and implements server solutions, including virtualization, replication and disaster recovery, along with supporting enterprise technologies.
  • Supports server technologies for virtualized and non-virtualized devices.
  • Demonstrated experience with administering various types of servers including File, Mail, Web, FTP, Proxy, and application servers.
  • Configures, implements, and upgrades new and existing computer systems.
  • Performs system analysis, including I/O and architecture.
  • Develop documentation on new or existing systems.
  • Provides recommendations for system enhancements and additions.
  • Performs upgrades of operating systems and designs systems enhancements.
  • Develop tests to ensure systems meet documented user requirements.
  • Enhance efficiency through process of orchestration and automation.
  • Establishes and maintains procedures for ensuring continued system reliability.
  • Provides consultation on standards, policies, principles, practices and techniques of system engineering and documentation.
  • Research, compile, and analyze system design to assist with the resolution of network issues.
  • Utilize process improvement methodologies such as the Capability Maturity Model.
  • Presents and communicates comprehensive information, ideas and advice in a clear, concise and logical manner, both orally and in writing.
  • Provides data for audits.
  • The Server Administrator is required to be onsite at the Fairchild Building in downtown Washington, DC three (3) days per week.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field.
  • Extensive experience (4+ years) in enterprise server infrastructure design and support.
  • Deep knowledge of server operating systems, hardware, virtualization, and cloud platforms.
  • Expertise in a variety of tools and technologies, such as Active Directory, PowerShell, and monitoring tools like Prometheus or Grafana.
  • Possess base-level certification, such as CompTIA Server +, A+, Security+, and Network+
  • Possess one or more Core certification (s) within their functional area, such as Microsoft, VMware and / or RedHat
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills
  • Candidates must be a U.S. citizen or a Legal Permanent Resident (Green Card status) for 3 years and be Federal Tax compliant.

Additional Requirements as per contract/client (Optional or Preferred):

  • Knowledge of operating systems (e.g., Windows, Linux, UNIX).
  • Experience with scripting and programming languages (e.g., Python, Perl).
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., Microsoft Azure).
  • Understanding of networking protocols (e.g., TCP, IP).
  • Proficiency with version-control systems (e.g., Git).
  • Communication: Ability to clearly explain technical information to both technical and non-
  • Attention to Detail: Minimizing errors and ensuring accuracy in system design and implementation.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for stakeholder briefings, technical documentation, and collaboration with cross-functional teams.
