The Material Handler plays a key role in supporting production and distribution operations by safely transporting materials, performing kitting and order picking, and maintaining accurate inventory records. This position involves driving a sprinter van between facilities, inspecting incoming and outgoing materials, and working in an industrial environment that values initiative, problem solving, and adaptability.
Responsibilities
- Perform kitting and order picking to ensure the correct materials are prepared and staged for production and shipment.
- Drive a sprinter van to transport products between local facilities, following all safety and traffic regulations.
- Receive materials and components, verify accuracy against documentation, and process them into inventory systems.
- Conduct inventory and cycle counting activities to maintain accurate stock levels and identify discrepancies.
- Inspect materials and products for quality, damage, and proper labeling before distribution or use in production.
- Handle and move materials safely within the facility, using appropriate tools and methods to prevent damage or injury.
- Support troubleshooting efforts related to material flow, inventory issues, and basic equipment or process concerns.
- Work effectively in an industrial setting that may involve electrical, mechanical, maintenance, construction, or HVAC-related materials.
- Identify and take ownership of projects and tasks, demonstrating a self-starter mindset and the ability to work with some ambiguity.
- Collaborate with team members and other departments to ensure timely delivery of materials and smooth operational workflows.
Essential Skills
- Prior experience as a material handler or in a receiving and inventory-focused role.
- Hands-on experience with kitting, order picking, and inventory management, including cycle counting.
- Ability to safely drive a sprinter van and transport products between facilities.
- Basic understanding of common electrical components used in industrial environments.
- Experience working in an industrial setting with exposure to electrical, mechanical, maintenance, construction, or HVAC-related tasks.
- Strong inspection skills to assess materials and products for quality, accuracy, and condition.
- Energetic approach to work with the ability to stay productive and engaged throughout the shift.
- Good problem-solving skills to address material flow issues, inventory discrepancies, and process challenges.
- Ability to work independently as a self-starter and take initiative in identifying and completing tasks.
- Comfort working with some ambiguity while maintaining focus on safety, quality, and efficiency.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Two-year technical degree or higher is preferred.
- Experience in troubleshooting basic issues related to materials, equipment, or processes.
- Background in environments involving electrical, mechanical, maintenance, construction, or HVAC work.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy when handling, inspecting, and documenting materials.
- Effective communication skills to coordinate with team members and other departments.
- Reliable work habits and a commitment to maintaining a safe and organized work area.

Work Environment
This role is based at an industrial facility in Hillsboro. This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Hillsboro, OR.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $22.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
