POSITION SUMMARY: The DSP will assist consumers in achieving the most significant degree of independence by supporting participation in program activities and providing opportunities for choice.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Assisting consumers with daily needs, including cooking, cleaning, bathing/dressing, and transferring toileting, feeding, grooming, and hygiene.
• Properly administering, monitoring, and documenting consumer medication administration.
• Assisting consumers and staff in the determination of daily activities such as attending church, parties, shopping, etc., and participating in activities as well as providing one-on-one instruction for consumers in activities of daily living or recreational activities.
• Collecting and recording data; assisting in maintaining daily progress notes or other consumer program-related records.
• Utilizing agency vehicles for household-related tasks and transporting and accompanying consumers to doctor appointments and activities.
• Initiating or implementing recommendations and/or behavior plans and maintaining related documentation.
• Cleaning group home as required and operating and maintaining housekeeping and cooking equipment.
• Attending staff meetings, individual supervision meetings, and training.
• Establish and maintain positive working relationships with consumers, supervisors, co-workers, parents/guardians/sponsors, and other professionals.
• Cooperate with the licensee and Department of Human Services staff in any inspection, inquiry, or investigation.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Ability to sit/stand for extended periods of time during the workday, including bending, squatting, kneeling, stretching, and stooping; and reaching above shoulder level.
• Vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
• Ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
• Ability to utilize and maintain physical restraints with participants as needed.
• Mobility to always ensure the safety of individuals with disability.
QUALIFICATIONS: The qualified candidate must successfully complete:
• Must be at least 18 years old
• Must possess a High School Diploma or GED certificate.
• Completion of a medical/health physical and TB screening
• Must have a license valid in the State of New Jersey
• Current auto liability insurance • Reliable transportation
• The employee must submit to a criminal background check
• The employee must agree to have their name checked against the Central Registry of Offenders Against Individuals with Developmental Disabilities.
• The employee shall submit to a drug test prior to employment.
• The employee shall submit to drug testing conducted randomly and for cause.
• The employee shall complete an application to have their name checked against the Child Abuse Registry Information (CARI).
