Our Livestock Supervisor will oversee regular care and feeding of several animals including: Aberdeen cattle, Scottish Highland cattle, Columbian/Dorset sheep, Borer goats, Nigerian goats, mini donkeys, alpacas, llamas, IPP pigs, Mangalista pigs, chickens, ducks, turkeys and a Belgium horse. This role will be responsible for managing the breeding of several of these animals as well as preparing animals for various seasonal events. The livestock supervisor will also maintain sanitation and cleanliness of animals, pens and areas where the public may interact with them. This position also involves overseeing other farm animal care team members as well as training animals in different capacities.
Roles & Responsibilities
- Care and feeding of a variety of animals
- Routinely feeding and checking on all farm animals
- Investigating any potential health concerns and assessing what is needed to maintain health of all animals
- Maintaining diligent vaccination schedules
- Collaborating with veterinarian care as needed
- Providing appropriate rations of feed for each animal based on age/size
- Maintaining detailed records regarding animal care
- Assisting in selling of livestock
- Preparing for different seasons throughout the year
- Caring for animals throughout breeding and birthing seasons (Birthing often in April/May and portions of August)
- Preparing different pens and living spaces for animals and moving animals based on changing seasonal and weather conditions
- Preparing animals for interactions with the public according to calendar of agrotourism events
- Maintaining a clean, sanitized and healthy environment for animals and the public
- Ensuring that all animal pens and living areas are kept clean
- Sanitizing areas of the enclosures and other spaces where the public will touch and interact with animals
- Adhering to healthy practices and teaching staff members and public guests sanitation principles for interacting with animals in a healthy and safe manner
- Overseeing farm animal care team members in safely caring for all animals
- Giving direction to train other staff members in how to best care for the needs of all animals
- Leading the team of staff members to divide tasks in order to accomplish all necessary daily chores
- Ensuring adherence to all health and safety practices
- Training animals in a variety of ways
- Halter training specific cattle, donkeys and alpacas
- Working with equine to ensure they can be handled by ferrier
- Socializing pigs so they can more easily interact with the public

Pay:
- The hourly wage/salary for the position will be determined base on the candidate's experience level
Requirements:
- Strong knowledge and experience with livestock
- Excellent organization and leadership skills
- Ability to engage in physically demanding work in various weather conditions
- Ability to stand for extended periods of time, bend at the waist and knees and lift at least 50 lbs.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to make decisions under pressure
- Ability to work flexible hours on evenings and weekends at times according to animal needs
- A degree in animal science is a plus
