Now Hiring: Designer – Furniture Dealer

Position Overview
We are seeking a high-performing Designer-Furniture Dealer to join our growing Chicago team. This is not a traditional studio design role, this is a fast-paced, client-facing, revenue-impacting position within a leading commercial furniture dealership environment.
Our designers are strategic partners to sales. They translate client needs into compelling, buildable, and budget-aligned workplace solutions. The ideal candidate is technically strong, highly organized, proactive in communication, and energized by delivering high-quality work. What You’ll Do
- Client & Programming Leadership
- Partner with Workplace Solutions Managers (Sales) to lead programming conversations and gather project requirements
- Translate client goals into functional, future-ready workplace strategies
- Validate programming data and align space planning solutions to budget, schedule, and business objectives
- Attend client meetings, site walks, and job site reviews as needed
- Space Planning & Design Execution
- Develop responsive space plans that align with program requirements and architectural constraints or limitations
- Produce 2D and 3D drawings using CET and related platforms
- Research, evaluate, and specify furniture solutions that support design intent and performance criteria
- Prepare finish palettes, furniture specifications, and product alternatives
- Create visually compelling client presentation materials (PowerPoint, finish boards, budgets)
- Specification & Documentation
- Generate accurate specifications and pricing
- Develop installation documentation to ensure alignment between design intent, Project Managers and vendors to support smooth installation
- Participate in field verification and ensure compliance with approved plans when needed
- Strategic Contribution
- Contribute design insight to deal strategy and competitive positioning
- Balance aesthetics, performance, and margin awareness
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining high standards of quality
- Act as a collaborative partner across Sales and Project Management
- What It Takes to Be Elite in This Role
- Strong commercial interiors acumen and understanding of commercial workplace environments
- High technical proficiency in CET (strongly preferred), AutoCAD, SketchUp, Revit or similar tools
- Confidence preparing client-ready presentations and budgets
- Excellent organization and time management skills in a fast-paced dealership setting
- Clear, proactive communication with internal and external stakeholders
- Ability to shift quickly between conceptual thinking and detailed execution
- Strong sense of ownership, accountability, and follow-through
- Comfortable balancing creativity with financial and operational realities
What you will need
- Degree in Interior Design, Architecture, or related field
- 3+ years of commercial interiors experience preferred
- Experience within a furniture dealership or similar environment strongly preferred
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Excel, Word)
- Knowledge of commercial furniture manufacturers and specification processes a plus
- Familiarity with CET designer, Project Spec, CAP 2020 Worksheet strongly preferred
