Job DescriptionSalary: $18.32-$20.32/hour
The Laundry Assistant ensures the facility's day-to-day laundry activities are completed in accordance with federal, state, local, and facility standards, guidelines, and regulations.
Responsibilities include:
- Collect, sort, and weigh soiled laundry and place in designated areas;
- Wash, dry, iron, fold and distribute clean laundry;
- Ensure that equipment is cleaned and properly stored;
- Report malfunctions and breakdowns to supervisor;
- Monitor lost-and-found articles of clothing;
- Ensure resident belongings are properly labeled;
- Develop and maintain a good working rapport;
- Coordinate daily laundry services with nursing services in resident care areas;
- Appropriately use and dispose of personal protective equipment and supplies when handling infectious materials;
- Dispose of all refuse daily in accordinace with procedures;
- Coordinate isolation procedures with nursing services;
- Follow established ergonomic policies and procedures for lifting, repetitive tasks, and the use of safety equipment and supplies;
- Ensure resident rights are protected and complaints are reported; and,
- Maintaining a safe environment for all residents and staff.
Working Conditions:
- Works in office area(s) as well as throughout resident areas;subject to frequent interruptions, and hostile and emotionally upset residents, family members, personnel, and visitors;
- Works beyond normal working hours when necessary and issubject to call
back during emergency conditions (i.e., severe weather, evacuation, post disaster, etc.); - Subject to injury from falls, burns from equipment, odors, etc., throughout the work day, as well as to reactions from dust, disinfectants, and other
air contaminants; - Subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc., including TB, HIV and Hepatitis; and,
- May be subject to the handling of and exposure to hazardous chemicals.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED preferred;
- Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the general public;
- Must possess the willingness to work harmoniously with other personnel;
- Must be able to summarize and relate information.
- Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday;
- Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language;
- Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position;
- Must be able to see and hear or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to ensure that the requirements of this position can
be fully met; - Must meet the general health requirements set forth by the policies of this facility which include a medical and physical examination;
- Must be able to relate to and work with persons who exhibit emotional instability, confusion, or at times, hostility;
- Must be able to lift a minimum of 25 pounds to a minimum height of 3 feet and be able to carry such weight a minimum distance of 25 feet; using a mechanical device, must regularly be able to push, pull, or move weight in excess of 50 pounds a distance of 300 feet; and,
- May be necessary to assist in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations.
