The Service Technician is responsible for performing routine maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on vehicles and/or components in accordance with manufacturer standards and dealership procedures. This role involves reading and interpreting repair orders, preparing work areas, securing parts and tools, completing inspections, and executing repairs efficiently and accurately. The technician documents all work performed, communicates findings to appropriate personnel, and ensures each vehicle is restored to a safe and fully functional condition. This position requires strong technical skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to maintaining a clean and safe work environment while delivering high-quality service to customers.
Minimum Qualifications:

Education:
-
High school diploma or GED required.
-
Completion of a vocational or technical program in automotive or diesel technology preferred.

Experience:
-
Minimum of 1–2 years of hands-on experience in vehicle maintenance and repair.

Experience with medium- or heavy-duty trucks, commercial vehicles, or dealership service operations is a plus.

Licenses/Certifications:
-
Valid driver’s license required.
-
Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or ability to obtain one is preferred.

Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification(s) preferred.

OEM or dealer-specific certifications (e.g., International®) are a plus.

Technical Competence:
-
Basic understanding of vehicle systems including electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and diagnostic systems.

Ability to read and interpret repair orders, wiring diagrams, and service manuals.

Familiarity with diagnostic tools, scan equipment, and electronic service systems.

Strong attention to detail, documentation skills, and ability to follow procedures.

Ability to work independently or as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

Willingness to work flexible hours, including overtime or weekends, as required.
Essential Functions:
-
Collect and review repair orders to understand assigned tasks and required documentation.
-
Clock on and off repair orders to accurately track time and work performed.

Gather and verify any additional information needed to properly diagnose or complete repairs.

Identify and secure proper tools and equipment for the job; ensure tools are maintained and returned after use.

Request parts to be delivered to the bay or retrieve parts when delivery is unavailable.

Prepare the vehicle and/or component for service, ensuring safety and cleanliness.

Conduct thorough visual inspections and identify any additional service needs.

Use internal systems and technical resources to locate service procedures, bulletins, or additional repair information.

Identify and secure additional parts required during the course of repairs.

Perform routine maintenance and complex repairs on vehicles and/or components to manufacturer and company standards.

Manage unexpected deviations during repair procedures by adjusting plans or escalating as needed.

Return unused parts to inventory and properly clean and return exchange (core) parts.

Maintain a clean and organized work area, including the return of specialty and shop tools to their proper locations.

Ensure all repairs are completed, and the vehicle is restored to proper working condition before release.

Thoroughly document all findings, diagnostics, and repairs performed on the repair order.

Notify appropriate personnel of additional faults or service recommendations discovered during repairs.

Complete final handover and planning steps for the next job assignment to ensure continuous workflow.

Act as a mentor to colleagues, apprentices, and junior technicians by offering support, training, and encouragement.

Model and coach safe work practices; comply with all health and safety regulations and promote a strong safety culture.

Perform routine tool and equipment checks using maintenance checklists to ensure readiness and safety compliance.

Complete the required International Technician web based training within 6 months from the hire date.
