Part-time Custodian
Independence Community College (ICC) is seeking applications for a Part-time Custodian position. Independence Community College is a small, rural, residential community college in southeast Kansas.
Position Summary
The college is seeking a team-oriented professional who, as a part of the Maintenance Team will perform a wide variety of custodial activities for the college. The position will include providing specific building maintenance as assigned, assisting with basic building interior and exterior improvement activities, assisting with building/campus activity set up, identifying specific building custodial/maintenance needs, processing work orders, establishing usage schedule, completing work list priorities, and initiating preventive maintenance. The Director of Maintenance and Facilities may assign other duties for the successful operation of the campus.
Qualifications
Qualifications for this position will include experience related to the scope of work. The ideal candidate will possess excellent custodial skills and be able to interact with the public in a professional manner.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the Custodian position. 1. Position generally requires light work with occasional lifting of thirty pounds or more, carrying supplies, equipment. The job requires the ability to stand for extended periods of time; walking, constant movement, climbing ladders, overhead work and operating equipment used in the maintenance of the college.
2. Requires constant hand grasp; frequent standing, walking and repetitive leg and arm movements, bending, reaching forward and overhead; squatting and kneeling; twist, climb and crawl. Ability to communicate verbally with an excellent comprehension of the English language.
3. Must have a valid driver’s license to drive from one location to another in the course of employment.
4. Work is generally performed in an indoor or outdoor setting in all kinds of weather. Requires maintenance of the grounds during inclement weather conditions.
5. Work may be required when the college is closed.
Position Information
The Part-time Custodian is a 12-month position.
Job Description
Part-time Custodian
The Custodian performs building, grounds and service activities with the college Maintenance Team. Specific maintenance skills and custodial responsibilities of the position will be dependent or demonstrated knowledge of and expertise under the direction of the Supervisor.
Primary Responsibilities
1. Provide specific building maintenance as assigned.
2. Assist with basic building interior and exterior improvement activities.
3. Assist building/campus activity set up.
4. Provide services for the campus buildings as assigned.
5. Perform custodial services.
6. Identify specific building custodial/maintenance needs, process work orders, establish usage schedule, complete work list priorities, and initiate preventive maintenance.
7. Other responsibilities necessary to the successful operation of the campus.

Qualifications

5. Ability to drive and ensure a valid driver’s license.
6. Ability to lift a minimum of thirty pounds; heavier items may need to be moved/lifted, but with help and or specific equipment.
7. Ability to perform assigned work tasks on a ladder or scaffolding.
8. Responsible to work alone with minimal supervision, and/or with others as needed.
9. Willingness to perform custodial work and other duties as may be assigned for the successful operation of the campus.
