Job DescriptionDirect Counsel is seeking a Healthcare Associate Attorney to join a highly respected Am Law firm.

Locations: San Francisco, Sacramento, Los Angeles, Orange County, San Diego

Practice Area: Healthcare – Medical Staff Governance, Peer Review & Regulatory Matters

Overview:
This is an opportunity for a mid-level associate (3–7 years of experience) to join a leading Healthcare practice group within a nationally recognized law firm. The role focuses on advising and representing hospital medical staffs and peer review bodies in complex governance, regulatory, and patient safety matters throughout California.

Position Overview:
The ideal candidate will have strong experience or interest in healthcare-related regulatory work, litigation, or administrative law, and will be comfortable working with complex statutory frameworks, bylaws, and institutional policies. This role combines litigation, counseling, and regulatory advisory work in a highly detail-oriented and mission-critical practice area focused on healthcare compliance and governance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Represent hospital medical staffs, peer review committees, and healthcare institutions
  • Advise on medical staff governance, credentialing, and peer review processes
  • Handle matters involving patient safety, fairness, and procedural compliance
  • Conduct legal research and draft detailed memoranda, policies, and legal documents
  • Assist with regulatory compliance and administrative proceedings
  • Support litigation and dispute resolution involving healthcare entities
  • Collaborate closely with clients on sensitive and complex institutional matters

Qualifications:

  • 3–7 years of legal experience
  • Experience in healthcare law, regulatory matters, litigation, administrative law, employment law, or professional licensing preferred
  • Strong legal writing, research, and analytical skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage complex factual and regulatory issues
  • Admission to the California Bar (required)
  • Prior healthcare, peer review, or medical staff experience a plus but not required

Compensation:
Expected salary range: $200,000 – $260,000, commensurate with experience
Eligible for annual bonus up to 15% of base compensation based on performance and billable hours expectations (1,850 annually, including pro bono credit eligibility)
