$24.00 – $35.00 per hour (DOE)
Paid travel time and mileage
Schedule
Monday–Friday
Heavy Midwest travel required (approximately 80%; typically home on weekends)
Participation in a rotating on-call schedule required
Job Summary
Quest International is seeking a full-time A/V Field Service Technician currently residing in the Chicago, IL area to support installed commercial and medical A/V systems at customer sites. This role provides installation support, preventative maintenance, and corrective repair services in environments ranging from enterprise facilities to hospitals and other regulated settings.
This is a hands-on, customer-facing field service role focused on troubleshooting, diagnostics, and repair of installed systems. It is not IT helpdesk, networking, bench repair, or warehouse-based work.
Essential Functions

Perform multi-step troubleshooting on assigned service calls

Provide FRU-level (Field Replaceable Unit) diagnostics and component replacement

Support installation, preventative maintenance, and corrective maintenance of A/V and electro-mechanical systems

Service displays, equipment racks, DSPs, amplifiers, control systems, switchers, and signal paths

Use digital multimeters and other diagnostic tools to isolate system faults

Provide phone-based technical support to other Field Service Engineers or customers as required

Participate in continuous improvement initiatives

Assist with parts coordination and shipments as needed

Accurately document service activities, parts usage, and work performed

Represent Quest International professionally at customer sites

Participate in a rotating on-call schedule for urgent service needs
Required Skills / Knowledge / Technical Competencies
-
Ability to troubleshoot systems to the FRU level
-
Experience servicing commercial A/V and electro-mechanical equipment
-
Experience working with complex wiring harnesses and sensitive electronic components

Proficient with common service tools, including:
-
Digital multimeter
-
Vacuum / pressure meter
-
Frequency counter
-

Strong knowledge of cabling and media types, including HDMI, Coax, USB, Cat5/Cat6

Ability to stand for extended periods (up to 8 hours per day)

Ability to perform physical tasks including bending, stooping, twisting, crawling, and climbing

Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, assisted and unassisted
Secondary Skills / Additional Requirements

Willingness to travel up to 80% of the time (frequent weekday travel)

Experience independently booking and tracking travel, lodging, and expenses

Ability to rent and operate a vehicle

Strong written and verbal communication skills

Must currently reside in the Chicago region
Work Environment
Work is performed primarily at customer locations, including hospitals, enterprise facilities, and other regulated environments. This role requires frequent travel, independent work, and adherence to safety, compliance, and customer-site protocols.
