Position Title: TEMPORARY Maintenance Mechanic
Shift: 1st Shift (8:00am - 4:30pm) Full-Time Hours
Duration of position: Approximately 3-6 months assignment
Department: Maintenance
Reports to: Maintenance Manager
Position Summary
The Maintenance Mechanic will perform maintenance of the production machinery, mechanical systems, and machinery, throughout the Breeder’s Choice Pet Foods plant, facilities, and offices. This position performs a variety of maintenance tasks including basic electrical, plumbing, and repairing ensuring that all buildings, structures, equipment, and appliances are in good working order.

Duties/Responsibilities:
• Dismantles, moves, installs, or repairs machinery, mechanical equipment, and systems.
• Examines machinery or mechanical equipment; identifies reasons for malfunction and completes repairs and/or maintenance.
• Performs preventive maintenance inspections and service on machines and equipment.
• Troubleshoot mechanical issues and identify root causes of equipment malfunctions.
• Thoroughly cleans machines and machine parts, removing parts and reinstalling as necessary.
• Oils and lubricates moving parts on machines to ensure effective performance.
• Records and reports damaged, worn, or broken parts.
• Orders and installs replacement parts for machines.
• Identifies the causes of unexpected breakdowns of machines.
• Repairs broken machines quickly and efficiently.
• Prepares reports documenting work performed.
• Cleans, organizes inventories, stocks, and otherwise maintains plant facilities, equipment, work areas, parts, tools, and supplies.
• Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies.
• Follows established safety and environmental policies and procedures, and promotes continuous improvement of safety and environmental performance in the workplace.
• Performs special program tasks, such as annual and semi-annual preventative maintenance.
• Collaborates with others regarding new products being added and modifications that will be required.
• Makes necessary modifications and implements test runs; confers with others regarding test results and makes additional alterations to machinery as required.
• Assists with training and instruction for production-related equipment to operators.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

• Ability to troubleshoot electrical and mechanical systems.

• Ability to use personal computers and related software applications.
• Ability to interpret technical manuals.
• Ability to perform preventive maintenance according to published guidelines.
• Ability to repair, dismantle, install, or move machinery and mechanical equipment.
• Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.
• Ability to test systems and/or operations in compliance with published standards.
• Ability to accurately use rules, calipers, micrometers, and other related measuring tools.
• Knowledge of inspecting and cleaning utility plant equipment.
• Ability to work in elevated locations up to 125 feet.
• Ability to use hand and power tools applicable to trade.
• Ability to provide technical instruction in area of specialty.
• Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
Education and Experience
• 2+ years of maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Experience working with packaging equipment preferred.
• Knowledge of computerized maintenance management principles as related to supplies, equipment, and/or services ordering and inventory control.
• Knowledge of maintenance and repair of mechanical equipment and systems.
• Some vocational or community college with related coursework or equivalent experience, is required.
Physical Requirements
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and move 50-100 pounds (with assistance).
• Prolonged periods of standing and walking.
• Ability to regularly climb, lift, bend, stand, walk, twist, stretch, turn, push, pull, reach with arms and hands, and move as needed to reach, clean, and service machinery.
• Ability to climb a ladder up to 50 feet.
• Must possess mobility skills necessary to access a variety of work areas.
• Work involves almost constant exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, and/or loud noises.
• Work environment involves exposure to potentially dangerous situations that require following extensive safety precautions and will include the use of protective equipment.
