Under general direction, the purpose of this position is to provide specialized administrative and legal support to the Employment/Labor, Insurance and Consumer Litigation Attorneys. Employees in this position are responsible for preparing employment, insurance claims and consumer complaint litigation files. In addition, they will research and respond to subpoenas, compose business correspondence, proofread documents, calendar litigation matters, such as, depositions and mediations. Additional responsibilities will include administrative functions, but are not limited to, answering phones, preparing documents for shipping, copying, scanning, filing, etc

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Prepares drafts of various legal documents, e.g., affidavits, resolutions, settlement agreements, and responses to discovery.
  • Responsible for compiling and organizing all documents and data for response to discovery.
  • Works with external counsel on case development; assists with reporting to internal departments.
  • Partners with internal clients to act as a resource for ongoing issues.
  • Prepares, reviews and distributes memorandums, correspondence, reports, presentations, forms, and other documents as assigned. Logs and tracks all forms of correspondence.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Three years law firm experience as a litigation paralegal.
  • The employment paralegal will ideally have extensive experience with personnel files, separation agreements, and working with HR departments.
  • At least 1 year of experience as a litigation paralegal for an in-house legal department
  • Completion of an American Bar Association (ABA) approved program of education and training for legal assistants; or, an Associate Degree in Paralegal Studies from an accredited college or university.
  • Paralegal Certificate
  • Ability to prioritize and work independently to carry out assignments to completion.
  • Skill in using logic and reasoning to identify alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
  • Ability to resolve routine administrative and procedural issues for legal staff and support staff.
  • Skill in business English, e.g., correspondence formats, spelling, punctuation and grammar.
  • Knowledge of legal terminology and subject matter applicable to the job. Skill in preparing correspondence, summaries and reports in a clear and concise manner.
  • Skill in reading, updating and maintaining various records and files with considerable knowledge of record-keeping practices.
  • Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures, transcribing and system word processing, managing files and records and other office procedures and terminology.
  • Ability to operate basic office equipment, e.g., PC/laptop, printers, copy machines, telephone systems, facsimile machines; ability to access, operate and maintain various software applications.
  • Ability to learn job-specific computer software applications.
  • Ability to type 45 WPM
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relations with all levels of employees, management and the general public.
  • Skill in performing duties with a professional and cooperative work ethic; ability to maintain the integrity and confidentiality of sensitive legal matters.
  • Knowledge of quality customer service principles and techniques. Ability to act as a department liaison.
  • Schedule is 8:30 am to 5:30 pm
  • This is a hybrid position right now. (combination of working from home and from the office)
