Job DescriptionDirect Counsel is representing a prominent national law firm in its search for a Government Contracts Associate in New York.

This is an exceptional opportunity for a mid-level associate (3–6 years of experience) to join a dynamic Government & Regulatory team that operates at the intersection of law, business, and public policy. The practice supports local, state, and federal entities across a variety of high-impact matters.

About the Role

The successful candidate will have experience handling:

  • Construction and government contracts, including bid protests, public procurement, and regulatory issues

  • Heavy civil construction disputes and/or local, state, and federal contract matters

  • Related municipal/public law, including open meetings, ethics, public records, and election law

  • Appearances before boards, commissions, tribunals, and government entities

Attorneys in this group work across sectors such as transportation, healthcare, environmental services, and real estate.

Qualifications

  • 3–6 years construction and/or government contract/regulatory experience at a top law firm or government agency.

  • Background in construction law, government contracts, or complex litigation/regulatory matters

  • Strong research, writing, and advocacy skills

  • New York Bar admission in good standing

  • Excellent academic credentials

  • Proactive, strategic thinker with strong client communication skills

Compensation

  • Base salary range: $240,000 – $330,000

  • Final compensation will depend on experience, skill set, location, and internal equity
