Analytica is seeking a distinguished AI Subject Matter Expert to lead the development and implementation of responsible artificial intelligence initiatives across the Department of Defense. This role requires deep expertise in AI ethics, policy development, and strategic implementation of AI governance frameworks. The position combines technical leadership with policy development to ensure ethical, safe, and effective AI adoption throughout DoD operations while maintaining compliance with responsible AI principles.

Responsibilities:

AI Strategy & Partnership Development:

  • Provide senior technical expertise and strategic guidance to engineers, commercial vendors, governmental agencies, and academic partners on AI tool development and implementation
  • Lead collaborative efforts to model, design, and deliver AI capabilities that empower DoD users to build high-quality datasets and data products
  • Identify and evaluate emerging AI opportunities across structured and unstructured text, massive-scale video, image, and multi-modal data processing applications
  • Establish strategic partnerships that advance DoD AI capabilities while maintaining security and ethical standards

Data Architecture & AI Infrastructure:

  • Support the design, development, and implementation of robust, scalable AI solutions for large-scale data collection and analysis
  • Lead initiatives to structure, label, and curate datasets for machine learning and algorithm development across diverse data types
  • Develop technical specifications and requirements for AI infrastructure that supports enterprise-wide implementation
  • Ensure data quality, accessibility, and usability standards for AI/ML model development and deployment

AI Governance & Policy Development:

  • Lead the development of comprehensive DoD data, analytics, and AI governance documents and frameworks
  • Conduct analysis and provide recommendations for cross-cutting AI implementation issues across DoD components
  • Coordinate and synchronize AI activities across military branches and defense agencies
  • Prepare situational awareness reports on AI adoption progress, challenges, and strategic recommendations

Responsible AI Policy & Ethics Leadership:

  • Write, review, and maintain Responsible Artificial Intelligence (RAI) policy documents for the agency
  • Provide authoritative technical guidance on AI ethics and responsible AI practices for high-priority defense projects
  • Integrate expertise across system safety engineering, cybersecurity, test and evaluation, human factors, ethics, and policy domains
  • Ensure RAI principles are embedded throughout the AI development lifecycle

Risk Assessment & Validation:

  • Design and conduct tabletop exercises to identify novel AI risks and validate responsible AI toolkits
  • Develop scenarios and testing protocols for policy recommendations and AI system assessments
  • Lead red team exercises and adversarial testing to identify potential AI system vulnerabilities
  • Create risk assessment frameworks specific to defense AI applications

Responsible AI Program Management:

  • Lead the implementation and management of DoD responsible artificial intelligence programs
  • Integrate responsible AI tools and frameworks into existing and new Department use cases
  • Develop comprehensive performance metrics and evaluation criteria for AI projects and tools
  • Evaluate AI system outcomes, conduct impact assessments, and provide recommendations to senior leadership

Competency Development & Workforce Planning:

  • Support data, analytics, and AI competency development initiatives and workforce role definition
  • Create detailed competency models for data science, analytics, and AI positions across DoD
  • Develop training programs and certification pathways for AI professionals
  • Assess workforce capability gaps and recommend strategies for AI talent development

Strategic Analysis & Implementation Support:

  • Conduct qualitative and quantitative research to support DoD Data, Analytics, and AI Adoption Strategy implementation
  • Draft strategic materials, white papers, and implementation guides for agency-wide AI adoption
  • Develop and refine performance metrics and measures in collaboration with DoD components
  • Monitor and assess the effectiveness of AI adoption strategy implementation

Technical Advisory & Problem-Solving:

  • Advise DoD personnel on complex data, analytics, and AI-related challenges requiring both technical and policy solutions
  • Provide expert consultation on AI system design, deployment, and optimization for mission-critical applications
  • Develop innovative approaches to address unique defense AI requirements and constraints

Executive Communication & Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Prepare executive briefing materials and written documents for diverse leadership audiences
  • Present to DoD leadership, U.S. interagency partners, international AI communities, White House officials, Congress, and senior military leaders
  • Communicate complex AI concepts and recommendations to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Represent DoD interests in national and international AI policy discussions

Required Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree (Master's or Ph.D.) in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, or related field
  • Minimum 10+ years of experience in AI/ML with at least 5 years in leadership or policy roles
  • Deep expertise in AI ethics, responsible AI frameworks, and AI governance principles
  • Proven experience in government or defense sector AI initiatives
  • Strong understanding of DoD processes, compliance requirements, and security frameworks
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with experience briefing senior executives
  • Current Top Secret security clearance or ability to obtain required clearance level

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in AI, Machine Learning, Computer Science, or related technical field
  • Experience with DoD acquisition processes and defense technology development
  • Publications in AI ethics, responsible AI, or related fields
  • Experience with international AI policy and standards development
  • Certifications in AI governance, ethics, or related areas
  • Previous experience in senior advisory roles within government or defense organizations
