Job Description

Power Engineering & Manufacturing, Inc. is seeking a results-driven Engineering Manager with a strong background in mechanical or product design engineering to lead and mentor a team of 5–10 engineers. This role is central to managing custom engineering orders (ETOs), driving technical project execution, leading design optimization efforts, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement. The ideal candidate brings both strong leadership and technical expertise in industrial product design.


Key Responsibilities

People Leadership

  • Manage and mentor a team of 5–10 engineers across multiple product lines and projects.
  • Oversee workload planning, prioritization, and resource allocation to meet deadlines and project goals.
  • Conduct performance evaluations, set individual goals, and provide ongoing coaching and professional development.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and collaborative team culture.
  • Empower team members with training and opportunities to deepen their product knowledge.

Technical Leadership

  • Lead the execution of engineer-to-order (ETO) inquiries and customer-specific design projects.
  • Oversee and manage multiple technical initiatives (e.g., electric actuators, cost-reduction projects).
  • Review and approve design work, engineering analyses, and technical documentation.
  • Provide technical guidance to resolve complex design and manufacturing challenges.
  • Optimize designs for manufacturability, quality, and cost through analytical and practical methods.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with global engineering teams, Manufacturing, Planning, Customer Service, and Product Management.
  • Approve design drawings, installation instructions, and customer documentation such as data sheets.

Continuous Improvement & KPIs

  • Track and improve key performance indicators (KPIs) including On-Time Delivery (OTD), Quality, and Engineering Productivity.
  • Lead and support Continuous Improvement (CI) projects using structured methodologies and CI tools.
  • Promote and implement process improvements within engineering operations.


Required Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Production Engineering from an accredited institution.

Experience

  • Minimum 8 years of experience in mechanical design of industrial products such as clutches, brakes, gearboxes, bearings, couplings, pumps, turbines, or similar.
  • At least 2 years of experience in managing people and workloads.
  • Proficient in CAD tools such as SolidWorks, Solid Edge, AutoCAD, Creo, or Inventor.
  • Familiarity with ERP and PLM systems is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of industry standards (ANSI, DIN, AGMA, API, ISO, etc.).
  • Strong foundation in GD&T and mechanical drafting standards.
