The Role: A Voice for Children

As a Children’s Staff Attorney, you will provide direct, independent legal representation to children and youth within the child welfare system. This is a high-impact role that combines rigorous courtroom advocacy with empathetic client counseling.

  • Collaborative Advocacy: Participate in mediations, negotiations, and treatment team staffings to ensure the child's best interests are represented.
  • Systemic Impact: Advocate for child victims of crime, including victims of human trafficking, and assist youth navigating the juvenile delinquency system.
  • Legal Precision: Conduct in-depth legal research and draft critical pleadings to support your cases.

What You Bring to the Firm

  • Licensure: Member in good standing of the Florida Bar (Required).
  • Experience: A background in child dependency law or related areas is highly preferred. Courtroom litigation experience is a significant plus.
  • Trauma-Informed Approach: The ability to work empathetically with children who have experienced trauma and a deep commitment to improving the lives of families in the welfare system.
  • Communication: Strong advocacy and collaboration skills. Bilingual proficiency (English/Spanish, Haitian Creole, or Portuguese) is a strong plus.
  • Mobility: Capability for regular travel within Broward County.

Why Join This Mission?

  • Impactful Work: You will be part of a team that helps thousands of people every year regain control of their lives.
  • Stability & Growth: Work within a large, established nonprofit with 50+ attorneys and a collaborative, mission-driven culture.
  • Community Focus: Engage in system advocacy to identify and challenge institutional barriers affecting the underserved.
