Job Title: Home Infusion Registered Nurse

Job Description

This role provides specialized home infusion nursing care, using the full nursing process to promote and maintain patient health in home, hospital, and clinical settings. The Home Infusion Registered Nurse coordinates and manages all aspects of infusion therapy as ordered by the physician, delivers patient-centered care in collaboration with families and the healthcare team, and ensures accurate and timely documentation. The position requires strong clinical judgment, excellent IV skills, and the ability to work independently while maintaining high standards of professionalism, confidentiality, and customer service.

Responsibilities

  • Use the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care for individuals receiving home infusion therapy, with a focus on health promotion and maintenance.
  • Apply systematic critical-thinking to guide data gathering, patient assessment, and nursing judgment in all aspects of infusion care.
  • Coordinate and manage all aspects of infusion nursing care as ordered by the physician, including preparation, administration, and monitoring of infusion therapies and injections.
  • Deliver patient-centered care in collaboration with the patient, their family, and all members of the healthcare team to ensure safe and effective treatment.
  • Provide comprehensive patient and family education regarding infusion therapy, medication administration, side effects, and self-care, and document all teaching provided.
  • Complete and submit all required documentation within established time frames, including initial assessments, visit notes, encounter records, and patient education materials.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary collaboration by communicating urgent clinical findings and changes in patient status promptly to the appropriate providers and team members.
  • Maintain required annual clinical competencies and stay current with best practices in infusion therapy, home care, and related nursing specialties.
  • Protect the privacy, security, and confidentiality of patient, staff, and organizational data, adhering to all applicable federal and state laws and HIPAA guidelines related to PHI and ePHI.
  • Foster a non-discriminatory, culturally sensitive care environment where services are delivered respectfully and inclusively to all patients and families.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision while demonstrating strong work ethic, reliability, and accountability in meeting patient care goals.
  • Provide exceptional customer service to patients and families, ensuring a positive experience and high-quality care in every interaction.
  • Travel within the assigned territory as needed to perform home visits and infusion therapy, demonstrating flexibility to meet patient scheduling and care needs.
  • Assist with on-call responsibilities as needed, including taking call and responding to urgent patient needs outside of regular business hours.
  • Maintain a neat, clean, and professional appearance and demeanor at all times when representing the organization in patient homes and clinical settings.
  • Safeguard company proprietary information and patient/client care information, strictly following organizational policies and legal requirements for confidentiality.
  • Comply with all federal and state laws related to confidentiality of protected health information and electronic protected health information, and adhere to HIPAA guidelines for readily identifiable PHI.
  • Safely lift and carry up to 10 pounds as needed for equipment and supplies used in home infusion care.
  • Operate a motor vehicle safely, including in adverse weather conditions when necessary to reach patients in the assigned territory.

Essential Skills

  • Current, active, and in good standing Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of employment.
  • Experience administering infusion therapy in a home, hospital, or clinical setting.
  • Strong infusion therapy skills, including IV insertion, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
  • Excellent IV skills for initiating and managing peripheral and/or central line infusions.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide high-quality patient care in home infusion and related medical settings.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • 3–5 years of experience in homecare is preferred.
  • Ability to lift up to 10 pounds safely.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel within the assigned territory.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle in adverse weather conditions when required.
  • Proficiency in using clinical judgment and critical-thinking skills to guide patient assessment and care decisions.
  • Strong documentation skills with the ability to complete assessments and visit notes accurately and on time.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining high standards of care.
  • Commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA and other privacy regulations.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in pediatric nursing, emergency room (ER), and/or medical-surgical nursing is a plus.
  • Experience in acute care or oncology nursing is beneficial for managing complex infusion therapies.
  • Familiarity with home infusion workflows and best practices.
  • Experience with healthcare and homecare software platforms such as WeInfuse and AlayaCare is an advantage.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills for collaborating with patients, families, and interdisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to provide clear, compassionate patient and family education regarding treatments and self-care.
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering a non-discriminatory, culturally sensitive care environment.
  • Professional demeanor and strong customer service orientation.
  • Motivation to grow professionally, with interest in advancement opportunities within infusion and homecare nursing.
  • Attention to detail and reliability in managing schedules, documentation, and follow-up care.

Work Environment

This position primarily supports infusion therapy in home, hospital, and clinical settings, offering a dynamic and patient-focused work environment. Nurses travel within an assigned territory to provide care in patients’ homes and may also work in acute care or outpatient clinical locations. The role involves using medical equipment and infusion-related technologies, and may include working with software platforms such as WeInfuse and AlayaCare to document care and coordinate services. Work hours may vary based on patient needs, and the nurse may participate in on-call rotations to respond to urgent situations outside of standard hours. The environment requires safe operation of a motor vehicle, including in adverse weather conditions, and occasional lifting of up to 10 pounds for supplies and equipment. A neat, clean, and professional appearance is expected at all times when interacting with patients, families, and healthcare team members. Job Type & Location

This is a Permanent position based out of Columbia, MD.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $85000.00 - $93600.00/yr.

• Insurance (starts on the first day of the month following the month the employee starts, 6/22 start = 7/1 insurance start) • PTO (earned by hour per pay period and usable once it is earned) • Paid Holidays • When driving for company business: o Mileage reimbursed at federal rate if driving personal vehicle o If routinely driving ~1800 miles/month, we can provide a company car and gas card. Maintenance is covered by company. (no mileage reimbursement unless it is your personal vehicle)
