Job Title: Senior DB2 Database Administrator (IRS Project)

Location: Remote


Position Overview:

We are seeking an experienced Senior DB2 Database Administrator (DBA) to support critical IRS systems within a large-scale, high-security federal environment. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with mainframe DB2 database administration, performance tuning, and supporting mission-critical batch and online applications in a z/OS environment.


This role involves working closely with IRS stakeholders, application developers, and operations teams to ensure high availability, security, and optimal performance of IRS databases.


Key Responsibilities:

Administer and maintain IBM DB2 databases on z/OS mainframe systems

Perform installation, configuration, upgrades, and patching of DB2 subsystems

Support database design and logical/physical modeling

Optimize SQL performance and implement database tuning strategies

Perform backup, recovery, and disaster recovery planning

Monitor and troubleshoot DB2 system performance issues

Work closely with IRS application teams to support new development, maintenance, and modernization efforts

Implement security policies and ensure compliance with IRS and federal guidelines

Use tools such as SPUFI, QMF, BMC, CA Database Analyzer, and other mainframe utilities


Required Qualifications:

8+ years of DB2 DBA experience on mainframe (z/OS) platforms

Strong experience in DB2 utilities, backup/recovery, performance tuning, and schema management

Familiarity with JCL, TSO/ISPF, RACF, Endevor, and batch job processing

Experience supporting federal agencies, ideally IRS or similar tax/financial systems

Hands-on experience with BMC or CA tools for DB2 management

Must have active IRS MBI clearance or be eligible to obtain one


Preferred Qualifications:

Experience working on Run15 or BMF/IMF programs within the IRS


Exposure to COBOL/Assembler programs interacting with DB2

Familiarity with CA-7, IBM DB2 Connect, and Data Studio

Prior IRS badge/laptop holder is a strong plus
