OVERVIEW
The Senior Corporate Reliability Engineer – Docks is responsible for leading both the reliability and
maintenance engineering efforts, as well as driving improvements across a network of
maritime dock operations. This role focuses on improving the reliability, safety, and performance of
critical dockside equipment including cranes, large material handlers, conveyor systems, and bulk
scales. The engineer will lead and support continuous improvement (CI) initiatives, conduct root
cause analyses, and drive capital projects that enhance operational uptime and safety on the
dock.
DETAILED ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
• Lead reliability engineering efforts for dockside equipment including ship unloaders, gantry
cranes, mobile material handlers, belt and screw conveyors, bucket elevators, and bulk
weighing systems.
• Develop and implement preventive and predictive maintenance strategies to improve
equipment uptime and reduce unplanned downtime.
• Conduct root cause failure analyses (RCFA) and lead defect elimination initiatives through
Lean Six Sigma projects.
• Oversee condition-based monitoring programs (e.g., vibration analysis, oil analysis) and
annual inspections for rotating and structural dock equipment.
• Identify, evaluate, and recommend capital projects for equipment upgrades or
replacements to improve safety, reliability, and productivity.
• Collaborate with Dock Operations, Maintenance, and Engineering teams to plan and
execute maintenance shutdowns and equipment overhauls.
• Lead weekly and monthly operations meetings with all sites to understand operating
performance and align on actions necessary to drive results.
• Maintain and update CMMS (SAP) records, equipment hierarchies, and spare parts
inventories.
• Ensure compliance with OSHA maritime safety standards and U.S. Coast Guard
regulations, support safety audits and inspections.
• Support Management of Change (MOC) processes for dock equipment modifications or
new installations.
• Provide technical support for troubleshooting mechanical, hydraulic, and structural issues
on dock equipment.
• Contribute to the development of dock reliability KPIs and dashboards.
WORK EXPERIENCES
• A minimum of 5 years (10 preferred) experience in Dock Reliability Engineering is required.
Experience should include cranes, ship unloaders, large material handlers, belt conveyors,
screw conveyors, bucket elevators, bulk scales, plus mechanical systems such as
hydraulic drives, gearboxes, motors, and structural components.
• Familiarity with predictive maintenance technologies, reliability engineering tools, and
capital project development and execution required.
• Lean Six Sigma Green or Black Belt is significantly preferred.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Marine Engineering or similar Engineering degree from an
accredited college or university.
• Certified Maintenance & Reliability Professional (CMRP) preferred.
ESSENTIAL CAPABILITIES (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES)
• Demonstrated experience and skills with plant maintenance, Agriculture Food handling
best practices, GMP, problem-solving, and continuous improvement techniques.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, SAP, and AutoCAD.
LOCATION OF ROLE/TRAVEL
• Baltimore, MD or Chalmette, LA
• Approximately 30-50% travel to ASR North America docks in Crockett,CA; Baltimore, MD;
Chalmette, LA; and Toronto-CAN.
SALARY PAY RANGE:
$93,000 – $172,500 plus bonus
The pay rate for the successful candidate will depend on the candidate’s qualifications and prior
experience.
