Job Summary
Newberry Group seeks a Senior Information Systems Security Engineer (ISSE) for a potential contract to begin in the next sixty days. These positions are responsible for ensuring the appropriate operational security posture is maintained for DOD IT systems.

Current DOD 8140 level II certification required, such as: CISM or CISSO or FITSP-M or GCIA or GCSA or GCIH or GSLC or GICSP or CISSP-ISSMP or CISSP

Primary Responsibilities:
The Sr Information Systems Security Engineer (ISSE) shall be skilled and capable of performing the role of ISSE for the customer, defining, and staffing a team and acts as the technical subject matter expert and shall specialize in accessing, designing and architecting the security architecture of the customer’s information systems to meet or exceed required security requirements. The ISSE is responsible for capturing and refining IT system requirements and ensuring integration of those requirements into information systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development and implementation of cybersecurity architectures for classified and unclassified systems.
  • Collaborate with system owners, developers, and ISSOs to ensure secure system configurations and continuous monitoring. Serve as the cybersecurity subject matter expert (SME) for accreditation and continuous monitoring processes.
  • Ensure compliance with NIST SP 800-53, DoDI 8500.01, and other relevant cybersecurity frameworks.
  • Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior cybersecurity personnel.
  • Provide technical guidance on cybersecurity best practices and emerging threats.
  • Interface with cybersecurity authorities, including the Authorizing Official (AO) and Security Control Assessor (SCA).


Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field.
  • U.S. Citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
  • At least 5 years of experience in information assurance or cybersecurity roles.
  • DoD 8140 level II certification
  • Strong knowledge of RMF, NIST SP 800-53, and DoD cybersecurity policies.
  • Experience with security tools such as ACAS, HBSS, and eMASS is preferred.
  • Excellent communication, documentation, and analytical skills.

Preferred Experience:

  • Prior experience working in a DoD or military academic environment.
  • Familiarity with cloud security (AWS GovCloud, Azure Government).
  • Familiarity with Air Force cybersecurity processes and tools.
  • Knowledge of classified and unclassified system environments.
  • Strong leadership skills.
