Production Supervisor – Powder Coat & Manufacturing

Position Summary

We are seeking a hands-on, results-driven Production Supervisor to lead daily manufacturing operations with a strong emphasis on our powder coating/paint line.

This position is responsible for leading employees, maintaining production flow, achieving schedule commitments, improving productivity, and ensuring that products meet established quality and safety standards. The ideal candidate understands that successful supervision requires more than keeping employees busy—it requires removing obstacles, maintaining flow, developing people, solving problems, and consistently delivering results.

Experience with powder coating, paint-line operations, metal fabrication, or finishing operations is strongly preferred.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead, coach, and hold production employees accountable for safety, quality, productivity, attendance, and performance expectations.
• Direct daily operations of the powder coat/paint line and assigned manufacturing areas.
• Ensure production priorities are clearly communicated and aligned with the manufacturing schedule.
• Maintain consistent product flow through pretreatment, drying, powder application, curing, inspection, and downstream operations.
• Monitor powder-coating process parameters and identify conditions contributing to defects, rework, downtime, or poor material utilization.
• Work with operators and maintenance personnel to troubleshoot equipment and process issues involving spray equipment, booths, ovens, conveyors, pretreatment systems, and related equipment.
• Drive improvements in first-pass quality and reduce rework, touch-up, scrap, and repeat defects.
• Monitor labor performance and ensure staffing is appropriately aligned with production requirements.
• Identify bottlenecks and take action to keep work moving through the department.
• Coordinate with Production Planning, Fabrication, Maintenance, Quality, Engineering, and other departments to resolve issues affecting production.
• Conduct daily start-up meetings and clearly communicate priorities, expectations, safety concerns, and performance results.
• Ensure employees follow standard work, quality requirements, safety procedures, and established manufacturing processes.
• Develop employees through coaching, cross-training, performance feedback, and accountability.
• Participate in continuous-improvement activities focused on increasing throughput, reducing waste, and improving manufacturing flow.
• Maintain accurate production, downtime, quality, and performance information.
• Promote a culture of urgency, teamwork, ownership, and continuous improvement.

Powder Coat / Paint Line Focus

The Production Supervisor will have direct responsibility for improving the performance of the powder-coating operation. Key areas of focus include:

• Line speed and throughput
• First-pass yield
• Powder utilization and transfer efficiency
• Film thickness and finish consistency
• Color-change and setup time
• Booth and gun performance
• Pretreatment effectiveness
• Oven temperature and cure performance
• Conveyor uptime
• Downtime reduction
• Rework and touch-up reduction
• Preventive maintenance coordination
• Operator training and process discipline

The supervisor should be comfortable using production data to identify losses and drive corrective action rather than relying solely on observation.

Qualifications

• Previous manufacturing leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
• Powder coating, industrial painting, metal finishing, or related manufacturing experience strongly preferred.
• Working knowledge of powder-coating equipment and processes is highly desirable.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability.
• Demonstrated ability to lead employees and hold teams accountable while maintaining a positive working environment.
• Ability to understand production schedules, priorities, and manufacturing workflow.
• Strong problem-solving and continuous-improvement mindset.
• Ability to analyze basic manufacturing KPIs and use data to drive improvements.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.
• Experience in metal fabrication or a custom/job-shop manufacturing environment is a plus.
