Role Overview

The Grind Tech Employee is responsible for operating equipment and performing tasks associated with the grinding, blending, and packaging of beef products in accordance with company standards, USDA-FSIS regulations, BRC requirements, and customer specifications. This role requires attention to detail, commitment to food safety, and the ability to work in a fast-paced

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate grind equipment (grinders, mixers, patty machines, chub machines, scales, etc.) safely and efficiently.
  • Ensure proper raw material selection, trim sorting, and lean point verification prior to grinding.
  • Perform pre-operational checks and assist in equipment set-up, lubrication, and safe shut-down procedures.
  • Monitor product quality during processing, including texture, fat content, temperature, and appearance.
  • Weigh, label, and package finished ground beef products according to specifications.
  • Maintain accurate production logs and verify yields against standards.
  • Follow all HACCP, GMP, BQA, and food safety protocols.
  • Clean and sanitize equipment and work areas in compliance with sanitation SOPs.
  • Report equipment malfunctions, unsafe conditions, or product deviations immediately to supervisors.
  • Assist in daily grind room housekeeping, organization, and inventory management.
  • Work collaboratively with other departments (fabrication, warehouse, QA, sanitation).

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Prior experience in beef processing, food production, or manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Ability to read and follow SOPs, safety instructions, and production orders.
  • Basic math skills for weight verification, lean point checks, and product counts.
  • Willingness to work in cold environments (35–45&degree;F).
  • Ability to stand for extended periods, lift 50+ lbs, and perform repetitive tasks.
  • Commitment to safety, teamwork, and continuous improvement.

Working Conditions

  • Cold and damp production environment.
  • Exposure to raw meat, cleaning chemicals, and moving equipment.
  • Requires use of PPE: hair nets, gloves, hearing protection, safety boots, etc.
  • Shifts may include early mornings, overtime, weekends, and holidays as needed.
