Legal Aid Society of San Bernardino (LASSB) is a 501 (C)(3) non-profit organization founded in 1958 to provide civil legal services to the indigent and needy. Since its formation, has continually offered free legal services to the needy to protect their rights and assist them in remedying problems that affect their daily lives. We provide free legal services throughout the vast county of San Bernardino and Riverside. Our organization advocates for the rights of low-income people, and we believe the right team with a powerful vision can change how society contributes to their success.
Job Summary
LASSB has an immediate opening for a Family Law Legal Assistant who will provide direct legal support to attorneys and meaningful assistance to clients facing critical legal issues including paternity, custody/visitation, legal separation, annulment, and divorce.
This role is full-time, in-person, and includes regular travel to off-site legal clinics and partner locations throughout the region. The ideal candidate will be adaptable, organized, and deeply committed to serving disadvantaged populations.
Compensation and Benefits
- Salary: $45,600 – $47,840 annually (depending on experience).

Responsibilities
- Conduct client interviews and complete intake, closing letters, and file documentation.
- Assist with document preparation such as fee waivers, and preparation of all Judicial Council forms and filings with court including Petitions, Responses, Request for Orders, Declarations, Subpoenas, and Judgments.
- Support attorneys with e-filing, file organization and communication with clients.
- Maintain confidentiality and uphold client-attorney privilege at all times.
- Travel to and assist at off-site clinics, community workshops, and partner agencies as needed.
- Represent LASSB at outreach events and develop strong working relationships with community partners.
- Maintain accurate case records using case management systems such as LegalServer and Lawyaw.
- Track data for grant compliance and reporting.
- Provide cross-unit support as needed (e.g., housing, probate, etc).
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Language: Bilingual English/Spanish required (oral and written).
- Four (4) year college degree
- Effective verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong customer service orientation and ability to work with sensitive populations.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and digital case management tools.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
- Previous calendaring or legal scheduling experience is helpful.
- Self-motivated, adaptable, and eager to learn.
- Ability to travel regularly to off-site locations (reliable transportation and valid driver’s license preferred).
