Job Description

The Massage Therapist is responsible for providing exceptional massage and body treatments while creating a relaxing, personalized, and memorable experience for every guest. This position delivers professional treatments in accordance with spa standards, maintains a clean and tranquil treatment environment, and promotes the overall wellness experience of Calistoga Motor Lodge & Spa.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Perform professional massage and body treatments based on guest needs and spa protocols.
  • Conduct a thorough consultation with each guest to understand preferences, areas of concern, and treatment expectations.
  • Recommend appropriate massage techniques and treatments based on the guest consultation.
  • Maintain a high level of professionalism, hospitality, and discretion throughout the guest experience.
  • Ensure proper draping and guest comfort at all times.
  • Maintain accurate treatment records and document relevant guest preferences or information.
  • Prepare treatment rooms before each appointment and restore them to spa standards afterward.
  • Maintain cleanliness, sanitation, and organization of treatment rooms and equipment.
  • Follow all spa policies, procedures, health regulations, and safety standards.
  • Maintain current massage therapy license and any required certifications.
  • Communicate professionally with the Spa Manager and other spa team members regarding guest needs, scheduling, and operational issues.
  • Assist with maintaining appropriate inventory levels of linens, oils, lotions, and other treatment supplies.
  • Educate guests on available spa services and recommend appropriate treatments or enhancements when appropriate.
  • Support spa revenue goals through excellent service, thoughtful recommendations, and retail or treatment enhancements when appropriate.
  • Protect guest privacy and maintain confidentiality of all guest information.
  • Attend required spa meetings, training sessions, and continuing education.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications

  • Current California Massage Therapist certification/license or other legally required credentials.
  • Previous experience as a massage therapist in a luxury hotel, resort, spa, or wellness environment preferred.
  • Knowledge of a variety of massage techniques, including Swedish and deep tissue; additional modalities preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, contraindications, and safe massage practices.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness.
  • Ability to maintain a professional and welcoming demeanor with guests and colleagues.
  • Ability to work independently while also functioning effectively as part of a team.
  • Flexibility to work weekends, holidays, mornings, and evenings based on business needs.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and move throughout the spa for extended periods.
  • Ability to perform massage treatments requiring repetitive use of hands, wrists, arms, and shoulders.
  • Ability to lift and move linens, supplies, and equipment weighing up to approximately 25 pounds.
  • Ability to maintain appropriate physical stamina throughout scheduled treatments.
  • Ability to work in a quiet, treatment-focused environment for extended periods.

Success in this position is measured by consistently delivering exceptional treatments, maintaining high guest satisfaction, following spa standards and safety requirements, supporting the overall spa experience, and contributing positively to the financial and operational performance of the Spa.
