We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Law Clerk to support our Contracts Department at a construction law firm. The ideal candidate will assist attorneys in drafting, reviewing, and managing a wide range of construction-related legal documents and contracts. This is an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate with an interest in construction law and contract negotiation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with the drafting, review, and revision of construction contracts, subcontracts, purchase orders, and service agreements.
- Conduct legal research on issues related to construction law, contract law, and relevant regulations (e.g., lien law, prompt payment statutes).
- Review and summarize contract clauses, change orders, indemnity provisions, and insurance requirements.
- Help prepare memoranda, legal opinions, and internal briefing notes on contractual matters.
- Assist with the organization and maintenance of contract files, including version control and document tracking.
- Monitor legal and regulatory developments that may affect construction contracts and assist in ensuring compliance.
- Collaborate with clients to gather facts and documentation as needed.
- Prepare templates and standard clauses to improve drafting efficiency.
- Perform administrative tasks such as filing, proofreading, and document formatting as required.
Qualifications:
- Recently graduated from a J.D. program.
- Prior experience or coursework in construction law, contract law, or real estate law is preferred.
- Strong legal research and analytical skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication.
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel) and legal research platforms (e.g., Westlaw, LexisNexis) is preferred.
- Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
