Volunteer Leadership Role
The KEEN New York Coaches Committee is a leadership group made up of dedicated volunteers who help strengthen KEEN programming, support fellow volunteers, and foster a positive experience for athletes and families. Coaches Committee members play an important role in building community, supporting program operations, and helping ensure KEEN sessions are welcoming, organized, and safe.
Key Responsibilities
- Attend KEEN programs consistently and serve as a strong, reliable volunteer presence
- Attend 2 different KEEN programs per month, or commit to leading/adopting a program in need of a dedicated Coach
- Help support volunteer orientation and athlete-volunteer pairing during programs
- Model positive engagement with athletes of differing ages, abilities, and interests
- Help foster a safe, welcoming, and supportive environment for athletes, families, and volunteers
- Communicate clearly and step into leadership as needed during sessions
- Contribute to the KEEN community through collaboration, flexibility, and problem-solving
Eligibility
To be eligible for the Coaches Committee, volunteers should:
- Be committed to KEEN New Yorks mission and to supporting young people with disabilities
- Have regularly volunteered with KEEN New York for a full season, generally attending at least 2 sessions per month on average for approximately 3 months
- Demonstrate strong engagement with athletes and a positive, dependable presence at programs
- Show leadership potential, initiative, adaptability, and strong communication skills
- Be comfortable helping guide volunteers and speaking in front of groups when needed

Additional Involvement
Coaches Committee members are encouraged to take part in quarterly meetings, community-building events, and other opportunities to strengthen the KEEN volunteer community.

Additional AmeriCorps Requirements
Coach Across America AmeriCorps coaches must complete the following requirements to ensure successful completion of the AmeriCorps program:
- Completion of the minimum required hours of service and training by end of term
- Attendance at the Coach Orientation
- Completion of bi-weekly timesheets
- Attendance at days of community service
- Attend Coach Across America trainings, meetings, and special initiatives
- Perform data collection activities as directed by Coach Across America
Uniform Policy
Coaches must wear Coach Across America branded t-shirts provided by Coach Across America with AmeriCorps logo when coaching and at program sessions and events
Eligibility & Qualifications
- AmeriCorps is open to U.S. citizens, nationals, or lawful permanent residents.
- Members must be 18 years old, or 17 with written parental/guardian consent.
- Members must have or be working toward a High School diploma, GED, or the equivalent.
- Prior experience with coaching and/or playing soccer.
- Available afterschool and on Saturdays.
