Job Description

Job Description

A well-regarded San Francisco-based litigation firm is seeking an experienced Litigation Legal Secretary to support a team of 4–5 attorneys on a remote, long-term, contract-to-hire basis. This position is available to provide coverage while a long-standing legal secretary is in and out over the coming months, with the potential to transition to full-time employment based on performance and mutual fit.

The firm handles a range of civil litigation matters for public and private clients, including high-profile work for the City of San Francisco and PG& E. The selected candidate must be able to manage both incoming litigation requests and an existing backlog, with minimal onboarding support.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare, revise, and finalize litigation documents including pleadings, motions, and appellate briefs
  • E-file documents in California state, federal, and appellate courts
  • Format filings in compliance with court-specific rules and procedures
  • Create tables of authorities (TOAs) and tables of contents (TOCs); perform cite checking
  • Manage attorney calendars and litigation deadlines using Filevine
  • Organize and maintain electronic case files; support trial preparation across active matters
  • Assist with general litigation support duties as needed
  • No billing, transcription, or dictation required

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years of litigation legal secretary experience in a law firm setting
  • Strong working knowledge of California civil litigation procedures and local court rules
  • Demonstrated experience e-filing in state, federal, and appellate courts
  • Advanced document formatting skills and familiarity with TOAs/TOCs and cite checking
  • Experience utilizing Filevine (preferred) or similar case management software to manage attorney calendars and litigation deadlines
  • Proficiency with Adobe Acrobat Pro (desktop version) for Bates stamping, PDF finalization, and document prep
  • Ability to handle competing priorities independently in a fast-paced, fully remote environment
  • Strong communication, organizational, and time management skills
  • Candidates must be based in CA or have significant AND recent CA civil litigation experience

Qualified candidates who meet the requirements above are encouraged to apply immediately. This position is ready to start as soon as this week, and the firm is moving quickly to schedule interviews. If you have the skills and experience to step into a remote litigation desk with minimal onboarding, we want to hear from you!
