Field Service Technician – Gearboxes & Winches | Drive Technology
Location: Ponchatoula, LA 70454
Compensation: $60K – $70K + bonus eligibility
Travel: ~35% domestic & international
Relocation: Negotiable for the right candidate
Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Field Service Technician to join our Drive Technology team. This hands-on role focuses on assembly, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of industrial gearboxes and winches, both in-shop and at customer sites. The ideal candidate combines technical expertise with strong customer service skills and can independently manage service operations, quotations, and technical documentation.
Key Responsibilities
- Assemble, inspect, and repair gearboxes and winches (including planetary/rope winches)
- Provide on-site troubleshooting, mechanical repairs, and technical consulting
- Develop and execute sales strategies to expand customer relationships
- Prepare quotations, service proposals, and technical documentation
- Coordinate and execute workshop and field service operations
- Collaborate with inside sales and internal teams to deliver customized solutions
- Conduct customer inspections, presentations, and technical consultations
- Maintain accurate records of service, repairs, and market trends
- Participate in ongoing technical training to stay current with products and industry standards
Qualifications
- 5+ years mechanical service experience, including 3+ years performing teardown, component replacement, alignment, and functional testing of gearboxes/winches
- Strong technical understanding of mechanical systems, preferably in drive technology or heavy machinery (construction, port/crane/maritime, offshore, mining, wind, industrial drives)
- Proven ability to independently troubleshoot and repair equipment in-shop and on-site
- 3+ years of workshop/service operations experience: planning, scheduling, quoting, spare-parts management, warranty/claims handling
- Minimum 2 years field service experience with customer-facing technical support
- Valid U.S. driver's license and ability to travel ~35%+
- Proficient in MS Office; ERP/Sage experience a plus
- Strong communication, customer service, and team collaboration skills
