Motorcycle Technician - BMW of Chula Vista
Non-Exempt
Job Summary:
Join our team as a BMW Motorcycle Technician and work in a brand-new, state-of-the-art facility designed to support precision, performance, and efficiency. In this role, you’ll perform advanced diagnostics, maintenance, and repair work on BMW motorcycles, adhering to the highest factory standards. Essential Functions:
- Receive and carry out service assignments from the Service Advisor or Manager.
- Perform scheduled maintenance, diagnostics, mechanical and electrical repairs, and performance upgrades on BMW motorcycles.
- Follow BMW factory repair procedures and specifications.
- Inspect and identify additional service needs, promptly notifying the Service Advisor to update the customer.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area and support team efforts to keep the shop clean and safe.
- Ensure motorcycles are returned cleaner than when received.
- Accurately complete and file service paperwork.
- Assist Service Writers with technical questions, work order creation, and customer interactions when needed.
- Conduct road tests as needed to confirm repairs and ensure ride quality.
- Participate in BMW Motorrad training programs and maintain current certifications.
- Adhere to all dealership and manufacturer safety standards.
- Maintain a clean workspace.
- Maintain satisfactory attendance.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
- BMW certified motorcycle technician.
- Graduation from an accredited motorcycle technical school (MMI, Wyotech, or equivalent)
- 1–2 years of experience as a motorcycle technician
- Valid driver’s license with motorcycle endorsement (M1)
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and maneuver motorcycles up to 800+ lbs.
- Willingness to participate in ongoing training and professional development.
- Ability to perform all essential functions of the job description.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 2+ years of experience working specifically with BMW or other European motorcycle brands
- Completion of BMW Motorrad-specific training or factory certifications
- Prior experience at a BMW motorcycle dealership or authorized service center
- Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills, especially with BMW diagnostic systems (e.g., ISTA)
- Experience performing advanced diagnostics, CAN-BUS system work, and electronic repairs
- Familiarity with used motorcycle evaluations and roadworthiness assessments
Physical Demands:
- Physical ability to stand, walk, and work in various positions (e.g., bending, kneeling) for extended periods.
- Manual dexterity to handle tools and small parts.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines.
- Ability to frequently lift 30 pounds and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
- Must be able to work in tight spaces.
- Frequently bend, stretch, kneel, and squat to perform repairs and inspections.
Environment/Noise:
- Work in well-ventilated and well-lit repair shop.
- Exposure to hazardous conditions and equipment that may result in minor injuries.
- Frequent use of protective gear such as goggles and earplugs.
- Work both indoors and outdoors, something in cramped spaces and awkward positions.
- Regular exposure to contaminants such as antifreeze and chemical degreasers.
- Work in close proximity to other technicians and mechanics.
- Noise level is moderate to loud.
