Counsel (Real Estate & Construction)
Location: Northern Denver, CO
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Counsel to support legal matters across land acquisition, real estate development, construction, and operations. This role partners closely with internal teams and outside counsel to manage risk, ensure compliance, and support the company’s growth in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Give legal guidance on land acquisition, land use, zoning, entitlements, and development matters
- Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, title documents, land development agreements, and related materials
- Coordinate with title companies, municipalities, special districts, and outside legal counsel; manage real estate closings
- Review and update homebuyer contracts; advise on RESPA, FHA/VA compliance, and other home sale regulations
- Review and advise on homeowner association (HOA) documents and related issues
- Review marketing contracts and programs; draft supporting legal documentation as needed
- Support the management of active and potential litigation, including coordination with outside counsel, document production, and participation in hearings, settlement conferences, and proceedings
- Partner with Human Resources to advise on employment policies, practices, and manager training
- Support HR on workplace safety programs, OSHA compliance, and policy review and updates
- Review and revise subcontractor agreements; assist with dispute resolution
- Advise on construction-related legal matters, including warranty and customer disputes
- Support the development and drafting of job descriptions
- Conduct all business in an ethical manner that supports customer satisfaction and company profitability
- Travel overnight as needed
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree
- 5 years of relevant legal experience
- Active attorney license and good standing with applicable state bar association(s)
- Experience in real estate, land development, construction, or related industries required
