Sequoia Ecological Consulting, Inc. (Sequoia) is a small, woman-owned environmental consulting firm that specializes in environmental and biological planning, permitting, and field services. We serve federal, state, and local public agencies, as well as private clients throughout California. Sequoias team develops creative solutions to complex projects through proactive planning, collaboration, and attention to detail.

You will thrive supporting all aspects of project management and business development, applying your deep understanding of biology, state and federal regulations, and environmental consulting to help Sequoia grow its project portfolio. You will lead some of our most complex compliance projects throughout California, supporting a wide range of clients.
You are a hands-on seller-doer who balances project delivery with client relationships and strategic pursuits. You bring extensive experience in project management and staff coordination, deliverable oversight and QA/QC, budgeting and scheduling, field surveys, impacts analysis, permit evaluation, and preparation of technical biological reports. You are comfortable mentoring staff, guiding teams, and acting as a trusted advisor to both clients and internal project teams. This role includes significant leadership responsibility and may involve supervising multiple project managers and biologists.
You will impact the team by:
- Managing complex environmental projects from inception through completion, including biological assessments, environmental documentation, scheduling, resource allocation, data collection, reporting, and client communication.
- Preparing and overseeing environmental permitting and compliance application packages with local, state, and federal agencies.
- Advising clients and internal staff on interpretation and application of local, state, and federal environmental regulations.
- Supporting and leading environmental permitting, compliance monitoring, and reporting efforts across multiple projects and programs.
- Coordinating directly with regulatory agencies including USACE, USFWS, CDFW, RWQCB, and other relevant agencies.
- Working closely with clients to design, manage, and deliver projects that meet regulatory, schedule, and budget requirements.
- Partnering with leadership and the marketing team on strategic pursuits, including identifying opportunities, developing budgets, preparing proposals, and supporting interviews.
- Actively identifying and developing new business opportunities and supporting long-term client relationships.
- Ensuring project quality, safety, schedule, and budget objectives are met across assigned projects.
- Leading multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining scope control and high-quality deliverables.
- Serving as a primary point of contact and escalation resource for project managers, biologists, and other staff.
- Building and maintaining strong, long-term relationships with clients, agencies, and internal teams.
- Supervising and mentoring senior staff, including project managers and biologists, with responsibility for performance, workload coordination, and professional development.

Have These Minimum Qualifications and Knowledge:
- Bachelors or Masters degree in Environmental Studies, Biology, Natural Resources, Ecology, Forestry, or a related field.
- 10 or more years of progressive project management experience in environmental consulting or a similar professional services environment, including cost estimating, scheduling, scope development, and proposal support or leadership.
- Extensive experience leading biological planning, permitting, compliance, mitigation, or environmental programs.
- Thorough understanding of CEQA, NEPA, and other applicable federal, state, and local regulatory requirements.
- Sophisticated knowledge of California flora and fauna and California and federal permitting processes, including CDFW 1600 SAA, RWQCB 401/404, and Section 7 consultations with USFWS.
- Experience navigating procurement processes for environmental consulting services.
- Proven experience supervising and mentoring staff, including workload management, goal setting, performance feedback, and annual reviews.
- Strong experience preparing and reviewing biological assessment reports and technical environmental documentation.
- Demonstrated success working with regulatory agencies, clients, and multidisciplinary technical teams throughout California.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong attention to detail and quality.
