Job DescriptionRole Summary
Our client, a manufacturing organization in the industrial production sector, is seeking an Automation & Controls Engineering Manager to lead automation strategy and execution. This role is responsible for defining and implementing a long-term technology roadmap, with a focus on advancing automation capabilities and integrating Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) solutions across operations.
The position combines technical leadership, strategic planning, and team development, with a strong emphasis on driving innovation and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute a forward-looking automation and controls strategy, including IIoT integration
- Evaluate and select appropriate automation technologies to support both short-term initiatives and long-term growth
- Design and implement scalable automation solutions to improve manufacturing processes
- Translate business challenges into technical solutions aligned with organizational goals
- Monitor and assess emerging technologies for potential impact on operations
- Conduct research and feasibility analysis of new automation technologies
- Lead the design of standardized hardware and software architectures for automation systems
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless system integration
- Provide leadership, coaching, and development for engineering team members
- Foster a positive and collaborative team environment
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field
- 5+ years of experience in manufacturing with a focus on automation and controls design
- 2+ years of leadership experience (team management or project leadership)
- Experience developing distributed and networked control systems, including IIoT solutions
- Strong understanding of engineering principles and their application to operational challenges
- Excellent communication, organizational, and analytical skills
- Ability to work collaboratively and adapt in a dynamic environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Lean or Six Sigma methodologies (Green Belt or Black Belt preferred)
- Familiarity with process manufacturing environments (e.g., food processing or similar regulated industries)
Compensation & Work Model
- Base salary range: $125,000 – $155,000 plus bonus
- Role likely requires regular onsite presence due to manufacturing environment
