Job Description

About the Company
Franklin D. Azar & Associates, P.C. proudly serves Colorado as the state's largest personal injury law firm. The company has recovered more than $2.3 billion while representing over 50,000 clients throughout Colorado. The firm has a strong presence in the Denver area with offices in Aurora, Boulder, Colorado Springs, Denver, Fort Collins, Glenwood Springs, Grand Junction, Greeley, Lakewood, Littleton, Longmont, Pueblo, and Thornton.

Practice areas span automobile and truck accidents, motorcycle and pedestrian cases, construction and workplace injuries, workers' compensation, bad faith claims, product liability, and class action/multi-district litigation. The company provides a great opportunity for individuals at all levels of their career, giving attorneys exposure to complex litigation with the ability to specialize in different practice areas.

Role Summary
The Litigation Attorney will run plaintiff-side litigation work across personal injury matters, building cases through discovery, depositions, motion practice, mediation, and trial preparation. This is a hands-on role where the attorney owns momentum and quality, communicating directly with clients and building strong relationships as each case progresses.

Success looks like disciplined case development, strong legal writing and research, confident client communication, and consistent progression in courtroom responsibility based on experience level (i.e. 2nd chair support through lead trial attorney).

Key Performance Objectives

First 30 Days

  • Complete Aurora-based onboarding and learn firm expectations for case handling, communication, and in-office operating rhythm.
  • Build trust with managing attorneys, legal support staff, and attorney liaison.
  • Evaluate assigned caseload to confirm deadlines, upcoming hearings/court dates, and the next 30-60 day plan for each case.

First 60 Days

  • Establish a consistent weekly cadence for case reviews, client updates, and support-staff coordination to keep work moving without surprises.
  • Demonstrate high-quality execution in core litigation work aligned to experience level (i.e. pleadings, discovery, depositions, motions practice, etc.)
  • For junior attorneys, actively leverage the structured mentoring environment to accelerate skill growth and courtroom readiness.

First 90 Days

  • Independently run key litigation events appropriate to experience level:
    • Junior Attorneys (0-3 years): Legal writing/research
    • Mid-Level Attorneys (3-7 years): 2nd chair trial support
    • Senior Attorneys (7-10+ years): 1st chair trial leadership
  • Improve case velocity through proactive issue-spotting, clean legal writing, and crisp communication with clients and senior leadership.
  • Operate confidently within the firm's “litigate to win” posture - building cases for leverage rather than defaulting to early settlement behavior.

First 12 Months (365 Days)

  • Sustain a high-output litigation cadence while maintaining quality, preparation, and client trust across a meaningful caseload.
  • On track toward long-term firm goals by reliably advancing cases through depositions and mediations, consistently driving trial readiness where needed.
  • Establish yourself as a trustworthy legal professional - dependable in-office, accountable with commitments, and collaborative with support staff and peers.

Key Responsibilities

Litigation Execution

  • Own plaintiff-side litigation work across discovery, depositions, motion practice, mediation, and trial preparation.
  • Maintain strong organization and deadline control to keep matters moving without reactive fire drills.

Client Ownership

  • Lead direct client communication and set clear expectations throughout case lifecycle.
  • Deliver a consistent experience that reflects a client-centered case model with litigation readiness.

Courtroom Growth and Trial Readiness

  • Develop and demonstrate legal expertise through progressive responsibility (i.e. 2nd chair support to 1st chair leadership based on experience and performance).
  • Prepare for hearings, mediations, and depositions with disciplined writing and research.

Team Collaboration and Support Leverage

  • Partner effectively with assigned paralegal/legal assistant to drive case progression and deliver an excellent client experience.
  • Communicate early and clearly when risks emerge, bringing solutions to the table.

Must-Have Qualifications

  • Juris Doctorate (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
  • Active bar admission and ability to practice law in Colorado or become licensed quickly.
  • Strong legal research, drafting, and writing skills with attention to detail.
  • Litigation experience appropriate to level (trial experience a big plus).
  • Plaintiff-side personal injury experience, specifically automobile accidents.

Nice-to-Haves

  • Experience in any of the firm's broader practice areas (workers' comp, bad faith, product liability, class action, etc.)
  • Meaningful courtroom exposure in a litigation setting (i.e. hearings, depositions, trials).
  • Ability and interest in mentoring junior attorneys and support staff (especially for mid/senior-level candidates).
  • Demonstrated passion of advocating for wronged or injured individuals, shown through plaintiff-side casework, victim advocacy, pro bono work or community service.

Why Franklin D. Azar & Associates?

  • High-Quality Caseload: Work in an environment that emphasizes building cases from the ground up, backed by a selective intake process that focuses on quality rather than volume-driven churn.
  • True Career Path: Grow through a structured training program and mentorship model designed to build real litigators, not just case processors.
  • Litigation Experts: Gain exposure to complex litigation and different practice areas as you manage a diverse caseload, with expanding seniority and courtroom ownership.
  • Local Presence: Once training is complete, attorneys can align to one of several Colorado locations, supporting sustainability and flexibility while maintaining an in-person office culture.
