Moorings Park is looking for a Director of Fitness. The Director of Fitness is responsible for overseeing a comprehensive fitness program that emphasizes physical health and well-being. This program should integrate various aspects of fitness, including strength, cardiovascular health, flexibility, and endurance. While the primary focus is on physical fitness, the program will also touch upon related dimensions such as nutrition, and brain fitness. This position reports directly to the community Executive or Associate Executive Director. A dotted line relationship with the Successful Aging Associate Executive Director of Wellness applies.
Contributions:
- Closely work with other departments establishing reciprocal communication and a continuum of related services (i.e. activities, therapy, food service, etc.)
- Carry out the goals and objectives set forth by the Executive Director.
- Develop and implement an orientation program for all new participants.
- Acquire baseline information on all participants establishing a tracking system and documenting outcomes quarterly.
- Conduct Moorings Annual Assessments (MAAPS + senior fit test) for prospective life care residents as well as recurring annual reviews. - Closely Liaison and coordinate with applicable department leads, the clinic, and Successful Aging Department to ensure successful MAAP assessments and follow up.
- Provide functional programs that are a corollary to ADL’s (activities of daily living) plus more sophisticated lifestyle choices.
- Collaborate with and align to Institute adopted fitness programs by the Associate ED of Wellness.
- Develop and implement fitness programs that cater to a wide range of abilities and goals, ensuring accessibility and inclusivity.
- Support and encourage residents to participate in the Annual Wellness Assessment.
- Provide ongoing educational opportunities using in-house expertise and community resources with a focus on prevention.
- Develop and drive personal training programming and other fee-based services.
- Schedule periodic educational to promote fitness and wellness.
- Develop a variety of programming that encourages resident involvement and rewards outcomes, such as recognition programs.
- Meet with wellness committee regularly encouraging members to serve as “ambassadors” for the program.
- Works closely with AED of Wellness to grow on-site programming and training needed to support residents' successful aging. Stimulate worksite wellness programs for personnel.
- Provide fitness support, classes, and educational opportunities to residents who reside in Assisted Living.
- Show initiative with respect to increased competency levels.
- Work in unison with others professionally and respectfully carrying out the Moorings Park Mission, Vision, Values, and Standards of Behavior.
- Work in compliance with all HIPAA regulations and standards.
Job Requirements:
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in the English language required
- During emergencies or natural disasters may be required to be on duty for the duration of the disaster.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in the English language required
- Minimum of a BS in Exercise Science or Degree in related field combined with relevant continuing education and professional experience. Certification with ACSM, NSCA, ACE, or AFAA, is helpful.
- Previous experience as a personal trainer, instructor and/or assistant to a fitness or wellness director in settings such as athletic club, hospital cardiac rehab or worksite wellness center. Previous experience working with older adults.
- Understanding of appropriate exercise protocols and working with special populations.
