Blackwater Technical Services is an independent ISO 17025 certified laboratory performing product certification testing for Miami-Dade, Florida Building Code, and other governing organizations.
Blackwater has an immediate need for testing technicians to perform structural and impact testing of fenestration systems. Experience in the installation or fabrication of window walls, curtain walls, railings, siding/cladding products, roll-down shutters, all types of residential and commercial doors and windows (pivot, sliding, casement, etc) is desired. Prior laboratory experience is highly desired, but the candidate will be trained to perform testing in accordance with the Blackwater Quality Assurance Manual. The successful applicant will have excellent attention to detail, plus organizational and multi-tasking skills, with the ability to problem solve in a fast-paced shop environment with limited supervision.
Daily responsibilities include the execution of tests necessary to ensure compliance with customer requirements, building codes, and other associated national standards, including but not limited to the following tasks:
- Test performance, data recording, and sample storage
- Create/build test fixtures as necessary to implement required tests (e.g., racks for gauges) and ensure chambers are properly sealed for test performance.
- Review and evaluate the performance of test specimens in accordance with the acceptance requirements detailed in the test plan.
- Troubleshoot test chamber/equipment performance
- Assist with maintenance of Quality Assurance records associated with the test performance (data sheets, equipment logs, calibration verification, etc.)
- Assist the construction/installation team as necessary for installation and test chamber construction/modification
- Maintain and organize test equipment
- Assist the Test Supervisor with project scheduling and test oversight, and perform other duties as necessary to ensure the shop functions smoothly.
Skills/Experience Requirements:
- Ability to read measurement equipment (dial gauges, tape measures, pressure gauges, etc.)
- General Mechanical/Construction knowledge, including rigging/lifting, welding, and rough carpentry
- Ability to read blueprints and product assembly drawings is desired
- Forklift certification is a plus, but we will train/certify the successful applicant
