The Custodian performs a variety of functions to clean and maintain assigned Williams County buildings.

  • Maintains bathrooms, including cleaning sinks, toilets, walls, and mirrors; sanitizes surfaces; ensures bathroom products are stocked
  • Sweeps and mops floors, including bathrooms, stairwells, and hallways
  • Performs floor care duties, including waxing and buffering commercial floors
  • Vacuums assigned offices and hallways
  • Empties, cleans, and sanitizes waste receptacles
  • Dusts handrails, ledges, desks, and other equipment as assigned
  • Maintains cleanliness of break rooms and kitchens, including cleaning appliances and stocking coffee, soap, utensils, and paper products
  • Mixes and prepares cleaning chemicals and materials
  • Cleans inside and outside of doors, washes windows
  • Maintains exterior areas by collecting and disposing of trash and debris from parking lots, walkways, and grounds
  • Removes snow as required
  • Provides customer service while interacting with staff, guests, and the public
  • Maintains confidentiality of non-public records and makes available all data and information deemed a public record by the North Dakota Century Code.

Typical Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED AND one (1) year of janitorial or custodial experience; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • Must possess a valid North Dakota Driver’s License or equivalent
  • Must pass a background check and pre-employment drug and alcohol screening
    • Some work is performed outdoors with exposure to extreme temperatures and inclement weather
    • Some work is performed in and around mechanical, industrial, and electrical equipment
    • Exposure to chemicals, sewage, and dust
    • Required to lift up to 50 pounds
    • Occasional work outside of regular hours

Special Working Conditions:



Compensation: Starting salary ranges from $21.37 to $23.08/hour depending on experience and training.
