Job DescriptionEssential Duties

  • Engineer custom tooling and fixturing solutions to improve machining performance and process reliability.
  • Develop workholding systems for complex machined components while considering safety, ergonomics, quality, and production efficiency.
  • Oversee tooling projects from initial concept through manufacturing, validation, implementation, and ongoing support.
  • Create and maintain tooling models, engineering drawings, and technical documentation using CAD software.
  • Work directly with suppliers to quote, manufacture, modify, and validate tooling and fixtures.
  • Partner with manufacturing and production personnel to troubleshoot machining issues and implement long-term process improvements.
  • Support new product launches by ensuring tooling is available, validated, and capable of meeting production demands.
  • Evaluate manufacturing processes to identify opportunities for cycle time reduction, tooling optimization, cost savings, and improved productivity.
  • Establish preventative maintenance plans and replacement strategies to maximize tooling life while minimizing production downtime.
  • Assist quality teams with inspection fixture development, measurement strategies, and validation activities.
  • Maintain engineering records including tooling specifications, bills of material, maintenance documentation, and revision history.
  • Participate in process validation, capability studies, and continuous improvement initiatives throughout the facility.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or another related engineering discipline.
  • At least five years of engineering experience supporting machining or manufacturing operations.
  • Strong understanding of CNC machining processes, including milling and turning applications.
  • Proven experience designing tooling, fixtures, and workholding systems for precision-machined components.
  • Ability to interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and GD&T requirements.
  • Experience utilizing CAD software to design manufacturing tooling; NX experience is beneficial but not required.
  • Familiarity with hydraulic and manual clamping systems, dimensional inspection, and CMM fixturing.
  • Excellent mechanical aptitude with the ability to identify and solve manufacturing challenges in a production environment.
  • Experience working with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, 5S, or similar continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively across engineering, production, quality, and supplier teams.
