Job DescriptionEssential Duties
- Engineer custom tooling and fixturing solutions to improve machining performance and process reliability.
- Develop workholding systems for complex machined components while considering safety, ergonomics, quality, and production efficiency.
- Oversee tooling projects from initial concept through manufacturing, validation, implementation, and ongoing support.
- Create and maintain tooling models, engineering drawings, and technical documentation using CAD software.
- Work directly with suppliers to quote, manufacture, modify, and validate tooling and fixtures.
- Partner with manufacturing and production personnel to troubleshoot machining issues and implement long-term process improvements.
- Support new product launches by ensuring tooling is available, validated, and capable of meeting production demands.
- Evaluate manufacturing processes to identify opportunities for cycle time reduction, tooling optimization, cost savings, and improved productivity.
- Establish preventative maintenance plans and replacement strategies to maximize tooling life while minimizing production downtime.
- Assist quality teams with inspection fixture development, measurement strategies, and validation activities.
- Maintain engineering records including tooling specifications, bills of material, maintenance documentation, and revision history.
- Participate in process validation, capability studies, and continuous improvement initiatives throughout the facility.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or another related engineering discipline.
- At least five years of engineering experience supporting machining or manufacturing operations.
- Strong understanding of CNC machining processes, including milling and turning applications.
- Proven experience designing tooling, fixtures, and workholding systems for precision-machined components.
- Ability to interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and GD&T requirements.
- Experience utilizing CAD software to design manufacturing tooling; NX experience is beneficial but not required.
- Familiarity with hydraulic and manual clamping systems, dimensional inspection, and CMM fixturing.
- Excellent mechanical aptitude with the ability to identify and solve manufacturing challenges in a production environment.
- Experience working with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, 5S, or similar continuous improvement methodologies.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively across engineering, production, quality, and supplier teams.
