Role Description The NEMT Independent Contractor Driver (1099) role is a contract, on-site position based in Toledo, OH. In this role, the driver provides non-emergency medical transportation for passengers to and from medical appointments, pharmacies, therapy sessions, and other approved destinations. Day-to-day tasks include safely operating a personal or approved vehicle, assisting passengers with entering and exiting the vehicle as needed, and following scheduled routes and pick-up times. Drivers are expected to maintain clear communication with dispatch or coordinators, use navigation tools to plan efficient routes, and document trip information in accordance with program requirements. The role also involves complying with local traffic laws, upholding safety and cleanliness standards for the vehicle, and delivering courteous, professional service to all passengers while respecting their privacy and boundaries.

- Demonstrated safe driving history, valid driver’s license, and reliable, well-maintained vehicle suitable for passenger transport.
- Strong customer service and interpersonal skills, including the ability to interact respectfully with individuals of diverse backgrounds and needs.
- Dependable time management and organizational skills to handle scheduled rides, punctual pick-ups, and efficient route planning.
- Basic technology skills to use smartphones, navigation apps, and transportation platforms for scheduling, communication, and trip documentation.
- Ability to assist passengers safely, including those with mobility challenges, while following proper safety and confidentiality practices.
- Clean driving record and ability to meet applicable background screening, insurance, and eligibility requirements for NEMT work.
- Familiarity with Toledo, OH and surrounding areas, or willingness to learn local routes and healthcare facility locations.
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred; prior professional driving, courier, rideshare, or NEMT experience is a plus.
