Job DescriptionSalary: $25 Hourly DOE

Position Overview

The Camp Counselor plays an essential role in creating a safe, fun, and engaging camp experience for children. Working under the supervision of the Camp Director, Camp Counselors actively supervise campers, lead activities, and support the daily schedule of camp programming. This role is ideal for individuals who enjoy working with children, have strong energy and enthusiasm, and are committed to maintaining a positive and supportive environment. Camp Counselors help ensure that campers feel safe, included, and excited to participate in camp activities while supporting the smooth operation of the camp day.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide attentive supervision of campers throughout the day to ensure safety and positive participation.
  • Lead and assist with games, sports, creative activities, and group experiences.
  • Encourage teamwork, inclusion, and positive social interaction among campers.
  • Support campers social and emotional needs and help resolve minor conflicts using positive behavior guidance.
  • Escort campers to activities, restrooms, and other areas of campus as needed
  • Supervise campers during rest periods, transitions, and group activities.

Program Support

  • Assist with implementing daily camp schedules, activities, and weekly themes.
  • Help prepare materials and activity spaces before sessions begin.
  • Support smooth transitions between activities and locations across campus.
  • Participate actively in camp programming with enthusiasm and creativity.


Staff Collaboration

  • Work closely with the Camp Director to support daily operations.
  • Communicate effectively with fellow counselors and staff regarding camper needs and schedule adjustments.
  • Maintain consistent expectations for camper behavior and participation.
  • Participate in staff meetings and required training sessions.


Safety & Professional Expectations

  • Maintain continuous awareness of camper safety and supervision requirements.
  • Follow all camp policies, procedures, and safety protocols.
  • Serve as a positive role model through professional behavior, communication, and leadership.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming environment for campers.
  • Demonstrate reliability, flexibility, and a strong commitment to the wellbeing of children.
  • Communicate respectfully and professionally with parents by providing brief updates when appropriate, answering questions, and directing any concerns or important information to the Camp Director to ensure consistent and clear communication.

Working with children requires extensive physical activity, mental alertness, patience, and enthusiasm. Camp Counselors should demonstrate:

  • Flexibility in a fast-paced, active environment
  • Good general health, physical stamina, and emotional stability are essential


Qualifications

  • Prior experience working with children in a camp, school, or youth program setting preferred
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • CPR and First Aid certification preferred (or willingness to obtain prior to camp)
  • Ability to learn camp management software, CampMinder


Physical Requirements

  • Regularly required to stand, walk, and actively participate in physical activities
  • Ability to supervise children in both indoor and outdoor environments
  • Occasionally required to lift or move equipment and materials (up to 30 lbs)
  • Ability to move across various campus environments, including uneven terrain


Dates & Compensation

  • Monday-Friday from 8:30am-3:30pm, June 15th-July 10th and July 20th-August 14th
  • 1-2 Days of Training in May/June
  • $25/hour
