The City of Saratoga Springs currently has an opening for a Maintenance IV – Parks technician. This is a full-time position with the Saratoga Springs Public Works Department of approximately 40 hours per week. This position under the direction of the Parks Superintendent, this position performs skilled work pertaining to landscape maintenance, and maintenance of Saratoga Springs City parks, streetscapes, park facilities and other City of Saratoga Springs property. This employee also functions as one of the City's principal "on-call" employees for after hour emergencies related to area of responsibility and for snow plowing. This position acts as a first-line supervisor for assigned Seasonal Maintenance - Parks employee(s).

Job Responsibilities

  • Provides front-line supervision to Seasonal Maintenance Workers - Parks on a project-by-project basis as assigned by Maintenance Supervisor – Parks, Parks Superintendent, or other City Management
  • Prioritizes and schedules work of assigned Seasonal Maintenance Workers - Parks, and then monitors work progress and employee performance for accuracy and effectiveness; reports any concerns to Maintenance Supervisor – Parks and/or Parks Superintendent
  • Perform all aspects of turf management, mowing, line trimming, edging, aerating, fertilizing, herbicide spraying, overseeding, and sod replacement using a variety of application equipment and techniques
  • Provide care and maintenance of trees, shrubs, and flowers (i.e. planting and proper pruning)
  • Inspect City parks, play grounds and facilities to identify special maintenance and care needs
  • Assist in the repair and maintenance of equipment, vehicles, and tools
  • Repair and installs irrigation systems
  • Remove graffiti and repairs vandalism of City property
  • Clear snow off park sidewalks, and other City walkways, and assist in snow removal of City streets and facilities. Perform maintenance on snow removal equipment
  • Perform winter projects
  • Schedules and monitors irrigation system on city property
  • Performs other duties as assigned


Qualifications

Education & Experience:

  • Graduation from high school or GED equivalent
  • Six (6) years previous experience in parks maintenance, landscaping, or related field.

Special Qualifications & Certifications:

  • Must possess a valid Utah CDL class A Driver's License, with a Tanker endorsement or be able to obtain one within 6 months.
  • Certified Playground Safety Inspector (CPSI)
  • CPR
  • First Aid
  • City Works work order documentation
  • Certified Utah Non-Commercial Pesticide Applicators License, category #3 Ornamental turf
  • LTAP Winter Weather Training
  • OSHA Confined Space Training / LTAP Training
  • Heavy Equipment Safety Operations
  • Heavy Equipment Operations
  • Irrigation and Troubleshooting training
  • Qualified Water Efficient Landscaper (QWEL)
  • Trench Shoring
  • Trench Safety / Competent Person
  • OSHA 10 - Workplace, Equipment, and Jobsite safety
  • LTAP Heavy Equipment Operation (Hands On)*
  • Backhoe or Excavator - Level 1, or Front-End Loader - Level 1, or Skid Steer - Level 1
  • Weather TRAK Central Control and Troubleshooting (Weathertrak University)
  • Water Distribution 2 (or higher), or Collections 2 (or higher) Certification
  • Supervisor/Leadership Training

At least two (2) of the following:

  • Irrigation Association (CLIA, CIC, CIT, CID, CIWM)
  • International Society of Arboriculture (Certified Arborist, Municipal, Urban Forest)
  • OSHA 30
  • OSHA HAZWOPR
  • NRPA Certs (CPRP, CPRE, CPSI)
  • Water Distribution IV
  • PGMS Certs (CGT, CGM)
  • PGA Certs
  • STMA Certs (CSFM, EFC, SFMA)
  • Utah Backflow Technician II Tester

At least two (2) of the following:

  • Water Distribution II
  • Proper Wiring and grounding of irrigation systems and controllers (Paige certification)
  • Proper Products and Techniques for Solvent Welding PVC (Certification)
  • Hydropoint/Hunter/Rainbird Uni. Certificate
  • Vertebrate endorsement for the Pesticide Applicators license
  • Flagger Certification (LTAP)
  • Registered Stormwater Inspector
  • Fall Protection Safety Training
  • Lift Operator
  • Insecticide Endorsement for the Pesticide Applicators License
  • Utah Backflow Technician I inspector
  • Sunbelt cert - MEWP, Forklift, etc.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of:

  • City policies and procedures

Compensation and Benefits
SALARY RANGE:

The full salary range is as follows, please note hiring will normally occur at the Minimum of the range and will not exceed the Midpoint of the range:

Minimum - $26.28/hr., Midpoint - $31.54/hr., Maximum - $36.80/hr.

The City participates in the Utah Public Retirement System (pension). In addition, the City does not participate in Social Security so no Social Security taxes are deducted from your paycheck. In lieu of the City's Social Security contributions, the City contributes 6.2% of salary into a 401(k) retirement plan.

Leave time benefits include 120 hours of paid time off (PTO) accrued annually, 40 hours of short-term medical accrued annually, and 11 holidays annually.
