Job DescriptionDescriptionAugustine Consulting, Inc. is a Woman-Owned Small Business professional services provider of engineering and technical services to the United States Government. We seek an experienced Systems Engineer (Human Factors) to serve as part of ACI’s Government Programs Team.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Systems Engineer (Human Factors) ensures that complex systems are designed, developed, and evaluated with the human user at the center. This role integrates human factors engineering, systems engineering, cognitive science, and operational analysis to optimize system performance, safety, usability, and mission effectiveness.

A successful Systems Engineer (Human Factors) at ACI will:

  • Lead human-centered requirements development, including user needs analysis, task analysis, workload assessment, and human–machine interface (HMI) definition.
  • Develop and maintain Human Systems Integration (HSI) artifacts, such as CONOPS, use cases, personas, workflows, and human engineering assessments.
  • Conduct usability evaluations and human performance testing, including simulations, prototypes, and operational demonstrations.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to ensure human factors considerations are integrated throughout the system lifecycle.
  • Perform cognitive, physical, and environmental workload analyses to identify risks and recommend design improvements.
  • Support system architecture development, ensuring alignment with human capabilities, limitations, and mission requirements.
  • Develop verification and validation plans for human-centered requirements and support test execution.
  • Prepare technical reports, briefings, and decision-support materials for stakeholders, leadership, and customers.

Required Qualifications

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Due to the nature of this work the candidate must have or have the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of War (DOW) Secret security clearance.
  • Master's degree in a related field and no experience, or
  • Bachelor's degree in related field and five (5) years of experience, or
  • Bachelor's degree in an unrelated field and 10 years of experience
  • Demonstrated experience applying human factors principles within complex systems or mission-critical environments.
  • Proficiency with task analysis tools, modeling techniques, and usability evaluation methods.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and documentation skills.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in defense, aerospace, medical systems, or high‑reliability industries.
  • Familiarity with model-based systems engineering (MBSE) tools such as Cameo, Rhapsody, or Enterprise Architect.
  • Knowledge of AR/VR/MR tools for human performance evaluation.
  • Experience supporting design reviews, milestone events, or customer demonstrations.
