Position Overview
Our client is seeking a Systems Engineer to provide Cloud DevOps and Database Engineering support for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). This role is ideal for candidates who are passionate about cloud technologies and eager to support mission-critical infrastructure in a dynamic federal environment. You'll contribute to the modernization of FAA systems through secure, scalable, and automated cloud solutions.
Key Responsibilities:

Provide technical support for FAA cloud environments, including AWS, Azure, and hybrid systems

Design, implement, and manage cloud-based databases using AWS services such as Amazon RDS (PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle, SQL Server), Aurora, DynamoDB, and Redshift

Develop and deploy database schema changes and configurations via CI/CD pipelines using AWS CodePipeline, GitLab CI/CD, CodeBuild, or Jenkins

Respond to service desk tickets related to cloud services, networking, and DevOps tools

Troubleshoot user access issues, system connectivity problems, and application performance concerns

Implement automated backup, snapshot, and recovery procedures using AWS native tools and infrastructure-as-code platforms like Terraform and CloudFormation

Optimize database performance, scalability, and availability across cloud and hybrid environments; monitor metrics using CloudWatch, Datadog, or similar tools

Engineer secure database connectivity and encryption solutions in compliance with FAA and federal data protection standards

Assist with account management, role-based access control (RBAC), and security compliance

Document troubleshooting procedures, lessons learned, and standard operating procedures

Support system upgrades, migrations (including on-premises to cloud), and deployments under senior staff guidance

Integrate database operations into DevSecOps workflows, ensuring version control, testing automation, and continuous delivery

Coordinate with FAA teams to ensure reliable and secure operation of cloud resources
About the Mission
This position directly supports the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the agency responsible for overseeing the safety of more than 45,000 daily flights and 3 million passengers across U.S.-controlled airspace. In addition to civilian aviation oversight, the FAA plays a vital role in national security in coordination with the Department of Defense and other federal partners.
Requirements
Education & Experience

Bachelor's degree in ANY field (HS diploma + 4 years of relevant experience may substitute for a bachelor's degree)

6-10 years of relevant experience in cloud infrastructure, DevOps, and database engineering

Certifications in AWS, Azure, DevOps, or IT security are highly desirable
Clearance & Citizenship Requirements

Ability to obtain a Public Trust clearance (non-SSBI)
