Assistant Project Manager Commercial Construction
Location: Northern New Jersey
Client: Established General Contractor & Construction Management Firm
Our client, a respected and well-established General Contracting and Construction Management firm based in Northern New Jersey, is actively seeking an Assistant Project Manager (APM) to support their growing portfolio of commercial construction projects. This is an excellent opportunity to join a collaborative, fast-paced team where your contributions directly impact the success of each project.
The ideal candidate will bring at least 3 years of experience in commercial construction, a strong understanding of project lifecycle coordination, and the ability to thrive in a dynamic environment. Experience working on projects in New Jersey is preferred.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide comprehensive support to the Project Manager in all phases of the construction process from preconstruction to closeout.
- Assist in developing and maintaining project schedules, managing permit applications, and coordinating logistics.
- Interface professionally with clients, subcontractors, and internal departments to ensure smooth project communication and execution.
- Track and manage project data including RFIs, submittals, change orders, and meeting minutes using project management software.
- Support the procurement process by helping define scopes of work, reviewing bids, and issuing contracts or POs.
- Participate in project safety planning and help ensure site compliance with safety protocols.
- Monitor progress on-site and assist with quality control, punch lists, and closeout documentation.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 3+ years of experience as an Assistant Project Manager in commercial construction.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting architectural drawings, specifications, and construction documents.
- Strong communication and organizational skills; confident interfacing with owners, architects, engineers, and subcontractors.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities across several active projects.
- Tech-savvy, with experience using Microsoft Office Suite. Familiarity with Primavera P6, Procore, or CMiC is a plus.
- Motivated, detail-oriented, and able to work both independently and as part of a team.
Compensation & Benefits:
- Base Salary: $70,000$100,000 (commensurate with experience)
