Qualifications:

  • Proven proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
  • Experience providing sign language interpretation in schools or educational environments
  • National or state interpreting certification (such as EIPA, RID, or equivalent) preferred
  • Strong interpersonal and communication abilities
  • Ability to adapt to varying classroom activities and content areas
  • High degree of professionalism, reliability, and confidentiality

Key Responsibilities:

  • Interpret spoken language into sign language and vice versa during classroom instruction, activities, and school events
  • Support students’ comprehension by accurately conveying teachers’ instructions and student responses
  • Collaborate with educators and support staff to facilitate inclusive learning experiences
  • Adapt interpreting methods to suit individual student needs and various educational subjects
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards for educational interpreters
  • Participate in IEP meetings and other relevant discussions, supporting both staff and student communication
