General Job Description:
The duties of the sanitarian position perform a critical role in the successful operation of the
company. The general responsibilities are to be part of a team to clean and sanitize all utensils,
equipment, facilities and infrastructure necessary to maintain sanitary operations according to
our food safety system and according to regulatory requirements. Personnel safety and food
safety are top priorities of the company.
Working hours required are Monday – Friday, 12:30 PM until completion of the daily duties
(typically 7:30 PM). Extraordinary detail(s) may be assigned by the Plant Manager or the Food
Safety Coordinator as needed, and possibly without advanced notice. Assignments to report for
duty at the time of pre-operational inspections (5:30 AM) may be assigned occasionally, in order
to review work performance and make corrections before the processing shift begins.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
•Learn and understand the proper use of various chemical agents for the purpose.
•Clean and sanitize utensils, equipment, food-contact surfaces, processing areas, floors, walls,
drains, and other facilities and infrastructure as assigned.
•Follow established sanitation procedures, SSOPs, cleaning schedules, and instructions to
ensure sanitary operations.
•Operate high-pressure water hoses, foaming machines, and other sanitation equipment safely
and properly.
•Use proper chemical detergents, sanitizers, other cleaning chemicals, and mechanical action
according to established procedures and safety requirements.
•Inspect cleaned areas and equipment for cleanliness and sanitary condition; identify and
correct deficiencies when possible and report deficiencies that require additional attention.
•Maintain proper separation and sanitation practices to help prevent cross-contamination
between raw and ready-to-eat areas and products.
•Follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), food safety procedures, and company
sanitation requirements at all times.
•Immediately report conditions that could affect food safety, employee safety, product quality,
or regulatory compliance to the Plant Manager or Food Safety Coordinator.
•Use required PPE and follow all employee safety requirements while performing sanitation
duties.
•Perform additional duties and sanitation-related assignments as directed by the Plant
Manager or Food Safety Coordinator.

•Work cooperatively with the Food Safety Coordinator and Plant Manager to maintain
sanitary conditions throughout the facility.
Sanitation Records and Documentation:
•Complete sanitation records, checklists, logs, and other required documentation accurately
and in a timely manner.
•Document sanitation activities, deficiencies, corrective actions, inspections, and other
information as required by company procedures.
•Complete and document chemical concentration or usage checks when required by sanitation
procedures.
•Immediately communicate missing, incomplete, or inaccurate sanitation documentation to
the Food Safety Coordinator or Plant Manager.
•Maintain records in accordance with company procedures and food safety requirements.
Pre-Operational Inspections:
•Participate in pre-operational inspections when assigned.
•Review assigned equipment and areas for cleanliness and sanitary condition.
•Identify and communicate sanitation deficiencies and complete required corrections before
processing begins.
•Work with the Food Safety Coordinator or Plant Manager to address deficiencies and verify
completion of corrective actions.
Required Job Qualifications:
While performing the duties of SANITARIAN, the team member is expected to:
•Perform the duties in wet and humid conditions with slippery surfaces at varied heights, in
wide ranging temperature conditions (32 – 100 degrees F).
•Have the ability to hear and read, interpret, and execute strict cleaning procedures, with
requirements to use high-pressure water hoses and foaming machines.
•Comply with all safety-based criteria associated with chemical detergents and sanitizers used
in the performance of the duties.
•Perform the entire duties while standing and have effective abilities to lift, bend, walk,
stretch, climb, push, pull, kneel, squat, reach, and use repetitive movements.
•Position requires the team member to lift, carry, push, and/or pull up to 75 pounds.
•Demonstrate attention to detail and the ability to consistently complete sanitation duties
thoroughly and according to established procedures.
•Work effectively both independently and as part of the sanitation/production team.
•Overtime and weekend work may be required.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE):
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required to be used or worn. This may include safety
glasses/goggles, plastic sleeves, frocks/coats, aprons, gloves, hair nets, beard nets, full face nets,
closed toe shoes. Jewelry, nail polish, fake nails, etc., cannot be worn in the facility.
Other Job Qualifications:
•Must be 18 years of age or older.
•Legal to work in the United States of America without the need of a Visa sponsorship.
•Must follow all company food safety, sanitation, employee safety, and GMP requirements.
•Must complete required sanitation, food safety, chemical safety, and employee safety
training.

Physical and Working Conditions:
The Sanitarian position requires substantial standing and physical activity in wet, humid, and
slippery conditions, including exposure to water, cleaning chemicals, sanitation equipment, and
temperatures ranging from approximately 32 – 100 degrees F. The position requires lifting,
